How it measured the fluctuation of light coming from distant stars, when a planet transits or passes in front of a star, the star isn't as bright. So, the Kepler telescope uses that to detect exoplanets. This is not an easy thing to do, but during its 9-year lifetime, the Kepler telescope confirmed the existence of 4,367 exoplanets. The speed of light travels at 186. 000 miles per second. It will still take us four years to get to our nearest star system Alpha Centauri, travelling at that speed. Which is 4. 2 light years from earth. On a normal spaceship it will take us 137. 000 years to reach our destination. Which is 25 trillion miles away. But if we want to travel the stars and find other exoplanets. Then we need to go faster than the speed of light. We need to create a space craft which allows us to go into wrap drive. Travelling ten times the speed of light. Will get to Mars in 2 minutes. Will get to Alpha Centuari in Five months.

oluwasegunijibadejo4465 if we want to colonize space then lets colonize space what is the point of getting of a gravity well creating spaceships you could live on with rotational gravity and then pin yourself to another gravity well its stupit most of the materials we would need to build new ships is in space not on planets but on astroids cheaper and easyer to mine because low gravity but i do comprehend your question lets first learn how to take care of our selfs as a species before moving of this world

Let's be honest. The main reason they are searching for other planets is either to strip and destroy for profit or for the top 1% to move to once this planet is ruined so far that it will take hundreds of thousands of years to recover. Honestly though I think they will destroy this planet either way because they need that extra bit of profit over everyone else needing a planet we can survive on.

why must we look for another planet when we can't manage the one we are in, the one we are currently living in is plagued by filth, corruption, crime and various vices, what is the assurance that the new planet will not be vitiated by us again, that is another what if, i love you hypothesis always and your voice
