We got the PlayStation 4! Sony-s new console comes out on November 15 in the US, but we went to Sony-s Tokyo HQ and asked engineering director Yasuhiro Ootori to give WIRED an exclusive look inside the new system-literally. Like, he takes it apart piece by piece and explains what all the parts do, and how they fit together

Wow looks worse then a computer i bought 5 years ago. seriously GDDR5 came out in 2008. 8GB or RAM that is SHARED which means its for graphics and normal memory. so who knows how much of that is actually being used at any point in time. Besides 8gb or ram translates into 76$. He didnt even specify the frequency of the ram. Also that motherboard looks like trash and needs about 8 more capacitors to be legit. Enjoy your SonyScrubBox4. Continue being ignorant and lazy and make us all deal with the BS of consoles.

This is the kind of techie-friendly stuff we should see from more companies. Hat's off (thanks) to the engineer director for this video. I'm rather surprised by the lack of component density on the motherboard. Ordinarily on PC parts, you have chips for the chipset, and capacitors + connectors everywhere. Even the standard video card PCB is filled with MOSFETS and capacitors. Not so on the PS4. I take it the PSU is probably the magic behind that.

I play games on pc and ps4 the good thing about ps4 is there is no we're near as many hackers compared to pc believe me I play bf3 and 4 on pc and ps4 the amount of cheat hackers on pc with these battlefield games is truly annoying to say the least you get aim bots wall hackers and what ever else some servers are almost unplayable due to these pathetic wankers.

From the looks. This is a very well thought out design and it shows that a lot of time has been put into it. As for xbox, it seems like it was hastily put together. Sloppy job, frankly it's 2-3 times bigger than ps4. if i had to guess, microsoft waited to get some intel on ps4 specs and hardware from their spies but it was just not enough time: D.

This is surprising. I guess with all of the people who were trying to mod the previous 3 consoles had Sony go and focus on making it user-friendly. That adds yet another reason to buy this system.

When i look at this i remember dismantling the ps3 to try and fix the ylod. I hated that time in my life. Then i got a slim that has lasted 2 years so far and hopefully till i need it.

Why does everybody start fights about console vs. PC? What ever happened to having fun playing video games. That's the whole reason gaming started in the first place haha

I've never seen a machine use GDDR5 ram to store CPU tasks before. Very interesting. And Because it uses x86 architecture porting games to PC won't be complete crap.

This is an example of excellent engineering from Sony, sophisticated design and quiet operation, trash from Microsoft keep out, bravo Yasuhiro Ootori!

This is so much better than the unboxing video of the Xbox One. It looks like Sony has a better taste of Marketing. Thumbs up if you agree.
