A couple of years on & there's SO much wrong with this clip! So much more wrong with what he says than in the movies he shows! PPE runs out, so people have a mix of full gear, surgical masks, n95's etc, hospitals are not used as quarantine, all successful countries used hotels & all successful countries locked people up, with security guards standing guard on anyone infected, or even exposed. Australia, NZ, Vietnam, Fiji, China, all locked up all incoming people in hotels or worse, Australia even using off shore immigration detention centres for it's own citizens & children. Tests have become near instant nasal swab & results show, not for symptoms, but for disease, no blood tests or labs needed & on & on, almost everything he critisised has been proven to be accurate of what actually happens when a severe pandemic hit. CDC didn't do any of this stuff, so he was kinda right in that, but CDC oversaw one of the highest unnecessary death rates in the world through their failure to act appropriately!

Very first movie he comments on, -Contagion, - he calls -pure Hollywood- because PPE was used inconsistently. In fact, when Ebola first broke out, there was very little PPE and its use was inconsistent. He's reviewing a scene in Zaire as if it had been in Los Angeles. Brian Amman, ecologist for the CDC, should know better. So i assume he was just reacting to clip out of context without realizing what it portrayed. The movie is quite consistent with -The Hot Zone- which reported the awful reality of the initial outbreak in Africa.

Really the only qualm I have is with E. T. he stated that he wouldn't decontaminate on the way in more so on the way out but in the next sentence states that who knows what pathogens may be on an alien life form. If that were to happen we would be as potentially deadly to it as it would be to us.

Well the first one aged poorly. In hospitals there was a lot of different equipment being used due to the sheer amount of patients. Reuse masks 5 times, single layer gloves, self made face shields etc. In a pandemic the supply lines just break any equipment everywhere is scarce

The De-contamination before seeing E. T. makes a lot of sense. E. T. is sick and the doctors don't want to give him anything more than he already has, or he'll die. The protection is as much for him as it is for the humans-so they'd de-contaminate going both ways

In et think that they're trying to protect Elliot and et because et is alien and they are right prolonged exposure was making him sick.
In a sense I think they were creating a clean room to guard against any one making one these two sicker.

Anyone else notice the only thing he said about World War Z was it wasn't realistic that the virus is going to be able to smell another virus - nothing about it being unrealistic that there is a zombie virus -

It is eerie to watch this now, as we stagger back to our feet, 2 1/2 years after this was posted. Just as with 9/11, we had enough info to make an educated prediction.
Next step: trust.

Watching this in 2022 after the global pandemic is very interesting. His comment about the bats is on point, although we now know how the PPE worked out for health care workers sadly.

Mr. Amman was fantastic! I loved his concise explanations and his dry sense of humor. I really think the CDC should use him in public relations and outreach programs.
