In this edition of A World of Difference, Korey Kiepert, owner and engineer with The Gravity Group, goes through the 8 main types of roller coasters and breaks down how they work as well as the decisions behind why they get built in the first place. Korey explains the difference between a giga coaster and a strata coaster, as well as what separates a wild mouse from a mine train. Butterflies in my stomach and having a panic attack the whole time just looking at this and listening to them talking about it. These things are terrifying to me. They can keep it! I can think of 1000 other fun things to do than this! lol.

How can you talk about -every rollercoaster- but not list an RMC or hybrid coaster. People get so confused thinking it-s a wooden coaster smh. I-ve told people so many times I just don-t want to anymore lmao.
reply

why no talk about rmc, which is making one of the newest type of roller coasters the raptor and such. like i swear they coulda made a whole section on rmc type roller coasters as a type of roller coaster.

as someone who's very afraid riding these kinds of rides, I'm amazed there are so many variations of roller coaster
and I still don't want to ride it, those clips are already making me dizzy

The best thing about this video is that there is a community of rollercoaster enthusiast gathered in the comments and that they are all so wholesome. I didn't know this community existed.

I don't like the wooden ones they freak me out because I'm like how does this thing stay on the track and not collapse with all the jerking and clicking and it just something weird about it
reply

Dang the fact that cedar point made the first hyper, giga, and strata coaster just marks them as the park that somewhat paved the way for the rest in some cases
reply

Yep, when a park wants to add a new coaster, the first two things the engineer needs to know is:
1) real estate
2) budget
The rest is science.

It blows my mind how it's only the last 15 years or so that roller coasters have all these new elements and coaster types. Like why now? Why not before?
reply

I love how a Gravity Group engineer is doing an interview at Kings Island, a park that doesn-t have a single Gravity Group coaster
