Veritasium's Derek Muller Answers the Web's Most Searched Questions

Rating: 4.0; Vote: 1
Veritasium's Derek Muller answers the web's most searched questions about himself. Where did the name 'Veritasium' come from? Is Veritasium a real element? Where does Derek live? Is he married? What was Veritasium's first video? Derek answers all these questions and much more! 68REDx: He says his accent is generally North American, which is broadly true, but as an American (US) I hear his default, usual accent as Canadian. Most Canadians speak a bit more crisply than we do and of course there are certain vowels that are pronounced differently. That s what I hear in Derek s accent. I d be interested to see if Canadians agree or if to you his accent falls somewhere in between Canadian and American.

Humanities greatest delusion. That we will live forever. ie will not die. This is the result of the evolution of all living things. If there are two individuals of a species and they have a difference in their level of fear of death, the one with the greatest fear of death is more likely to survive than the one with a lower fear of death. This gets hard wired into brains down the generations.
However, the human species is a bit different. We have the ability, which other species do not, to understand our mortality. And therefore we should accept it and consequently live better lives.
Accept your mortality and live your life as if it is the only one you get. Don't waste it by lying, cheating, being lazy or accumulating wealth because you can't take it with you when you're dead.

Hey, i just had an idea, to measure the speed of light in one direction, we should just use entangled photos, and then send one of them to a detector which, marks the time of beginning and the other goes to another detector which marks the time of ending of the photons path.
And then we could calculate one way speed of light.
Disclaimer: if i am the first one to think about this i claim this idea as mine.
Contact me first before using this idea.
(P. S. i won't be hard)

8: 35 Huh. I know in the past that I've accused Veritasium of trying to manipulate the algorithm because he would change the title and thumbnail of videos up to 4 times within a week, so I'd see what looked like a new Veritasium video pop up in my feed. Interesting to know that there is a less nefarious reason for it.

Derek is my 4th most favorite YT creator, only behind Professor Martyn (Periodic Table) Mark Rober and CuriosityShow My guess is that, he won't mind being the 4th of this list
Michael (vsauce, Niel Degrasse Tyson come next.
Sorry wired, although I love your content but you guys are not in that list

I binge watch all of his vid since entering college and until now. Now, do i get any ideas on whatever his videos all about? Definitely not if im being honest most of the time. But my god is it so interesting to watch his videos basically explaining science & math stuff.

OMG I'm actually usually enticed by the 1st (correct) title but he usually publishes videos at times I'm not free to watch them. So I end up watching the video with the changed click-bitey title. I feel Like I skew his statistic XD

timestamp 2: 00 so here in the states i just try to sound American Other than some vowel shifting, the difference between Canadian and American English is sincerity in the former and apathy in the latter. her nailed it. :)

He has this almost Steve Irwin-like vibe where his passion in Science is just infectious. Thanks for keeping my (and apparently more than 12 million others) science curiosity well fed and hope you're staying safe and well!

For me, the most interesting video was Is Most Published Research Wrong? with the somewhat surprising answer Yes, but the interesting part is Why.
The radiation video with the bananas was also really really good.

I find it funny and very humble that Derek claims to have an average intelligence. PhD alone would suggest otherwise and then there's all the other stuff that points to higher than average intelligence.

The electricity debate was really interesting and seeing a lot of well-known engineers and physicists responding to it was great. I'd love to see more debate and interaction on core concepts like that.

G day Derek,
Why do I end up with more questions after watching your video's?
It is a case of mentally one step forward into understanding, two steps back into ignorance.
Thanks mate

I guess he's talking about the black balls video and after that, how he explained in another video how he chosed the thumbnail and title for that video to help the algorithm to promote his video.

I actually met Derek briefly when he was touring Relativity Space (3d printed rocket company video, really kind dude in person, acts pretty much exactly the same as he does in his videos.
