Every rocket launch is different and it takes a lot of people and safety checks to ensure that a 5. 75 million pound rocket can safely launch into space. Mike Massimino, a former NASA astronaut and spacecraft communicator in the Mission Control Center breaks down what happens from eight hours before liftoff until launch. Thomas: I am an aviation and space writer, and lived in Houston much of my career. Mike M. was one of my very favorite people among the astronaut corps. A very nice and funny guy in a place where more than a few arrogant stiffs lurked.

So, if they want the fuel to be inside for the littlest time as possible before the launch, what happens to it when there are scrubs? How hard is the task of emptying those tanks? Is that the procedure?
