We all have plenty of questions about our phones, but where does the truth lie? Is our phone always listening to us? Is it safe to use while pumping gas? Does closing apps help our phone perform better? In this edition of WIRED's Tech Truths, former Apple store tech David Payette is here to set the record straight. Dave: Excellent video. With regard to extending the battery life of your phone, it is still advisable to keep between 20-80% where possible. This exponentially increases the lifespan of the battery. Leaving at 0% or 100% for extended periods of time has the opposite effect, even allowing for the buffer that is hidden in phones and EVs

Man it's going to be great when they finally just admit that our phones have totally been listening to us this entire time. The lie is just falling apart. Yeah okay, it's just listening for one specific acoustic model but also has the capability of instantaneously translating speech to text, interesting. It doesn't do it unless you ask it to! lol

My friends and I tested the listening once. None of us are parents or ever discuss anything like that. So one day we just started saying keywords like baby, diaper, formula, etc.
A few days later most of us had baby related ads.
So, yes you're phone listens to you and this Apple help desk expert wannabee can shove it.

immediately started off wrong -- it's been demonstrated time and time again that you can express interest in something in a conversation and within minutes you will start to see ads related to it. different phones do different things, but it is not just no, it's only listening for the trigger sounds like hey siri

The technical stuff is believable but the truth is phones are listening more than just command to wake up. It has been proven many times. Even i talking about some specific topic near my phone, got few days later many (spam) email about that specific subject. That is no coincidence.

It s annoying when videos like this use the activation phrase or acoustic model and my Apple devices activate. Many other content producers are more considerate and mute the activation phrase. Otherwise interesting video.

It is possible that the act of taking your phone out of your pockets could cause a static spark and ignite the gas fumes, I would imagine, but not simply already having your phone out and using it.

Airplane mode is great for preserving battery life! I had a phone without a SIM card for years so I would always have it on airplane mode and only switch on WiFi when I needed it

I loved this guy. He has a sense of catching the rhythm and tone of the process. Have a good mood. and this is one of the least videos I have barely watched until the endi.

ive personally had a hotel card get ruined by an iphone, but its been years. i think it was around the 5s era. but because of that day, ive always kept them separate.

This guy is right, your phone isn't listening to, or watching you. I just asked my phone if it was, and it said No, and I like that shirt you're wearing.

This has already been said but how are we supposed to take any of this as fact if he blatantly lies answering the first question?
