Conspiracy theories exploded online in the hours and days after Charlie Kirk’s murder. WIRED reporter David Gilbert hosts a discussion Nina Jankowics, author of How To Lose The Information War and Boston University Professor Joan Donovan to investigate why conspiracy theories around Kirk’s death are so potent, what they have in common with past assassination conspiracies, and how they spread so rapidly. The word conspiracy theory just means that more than one person planned an event. Basically everything is a conspiracy in some sense of the words. The game used to trick you is to lump ridiculous theories together with non-accepted mainstream theories, so you can feel smarter by rejecting all of them. But the real world is about details, evidence, and probabilities in the face of uncertainty. The entire frame of this video is intended to make the viewer dismiss everything but the FBIs current position. Maybe the FBI’s position IS correct, but don’t be emotionally manipulated into believing it based on the gaslighting in this lazy video

Not conspiracy theory: A vote was made in US govt on the day he was shot. Voted to Not release the Epstein files. Not a conspiracy: Epstein was intelligence with ties to is reel. Also, not a conspiracy: Charlie was becoming a growing problem for Is reel for criticizing the war tactics. Also criticizing trumps cabinet, DOJ, and FBI for covering up the Epstein files after he promised his base he would release them.
I believe Charlie helped trump get elected and has a lot of influence on young people and new voters. We know where the current administrations allegiances lie.

It's also wise to continually remind yourself that the amateur era of social media is pretty much over, and there are state level actors whose duty is to use Western social media as a propaganda conduit, not just for the messages their government wants them to push, but to amplify and encourage messaging that creates confusion and disunity within a target country. So not only are these conspiracy theories following a familiar track, somebody who understands that as well is probably helping it along. This will be normal with all things like it in the future.

I love Candace, but has anyone watched her show and seen the text messages They don’t have any dates or times on them. And the picture she has for Charlie’s contact photo looks like she just stitched a random picture of him off the internet. I love Candace, but I don’t knowthe whole thing is just weird. I like Charlie too, I was new to him. I’m one that believes he’s still alive.
Conspiracy theories are just hidden truths to me. You gotta think about all of this, and how it all came about. It’s almost theatrical.

I never watched the videos of Kirk's death. I don't need to see anyone choking on their own blood until dead. I feel distaste for people who do have that need. I watch horror movies all the time, if they are good, lol. Those are fake. I do not need to see real people dying, even the ones I don't like. There are many contributing factors to this age of violent reactions. One of them is a prevalent need to see the violence happening, to watch the deaths closely. That part also needs to be addressed.

Gonna make a bold statement. Charlie kirk was a man who skirted best evidence, promoted anti-intellectualism on college campuses, and targeted marginalized groups for violent crimes. Yeah he used words, but he did so to promote heated arguments and some of his best rebuttals ended with him simply rejecting the blunt counterpoint of his opponents. I think it's safe to say he finally just pushed someone too far and that really it's sensational to suggest it goes deeper than that.

This is freakin hilarious! The event was engineered to generate an endless stream of competing conspiracy theories with Candace Owens and friends pumping the infosphere with daily breadcrumbs and pied pipering her huge audience to nowhere. Think about it, if there were a group of powerful individuals who wanted the public to be distracted, deceived, divided, demoralized, disoriented, enraged, and afraid then with this one event all of their wishes have come true.

I’ve seen a lot of doubt and questioning over Charlie’s death, but none of the conspiracy theories they brought up here.
This is a classic example of poisoning the well.
There is a lot of valid criticism and reason to question the mainstream narrative of what happened. But they start this video off by throwing out the most ludicrous theories without acknowledging the ones people are actually commonly talking about.

It’s not conspiracy to say the official story makes no sense. And that his family or police of any kind isn’t investigating it at all. That something about Erica felt off. And that the more you look into the actual shot itself, there is way more to the story than the one they gave. And naturally when you shut down that people can even ask questions, conspiracy grows. That’s how that works. Truth don’t shush people up.
reply

Because they’re not conspiracy theories! It’s healthy skepticism, that’s in turn gaslit by legacy media! Discrediting a perspective by totally ignoring it and simply labeling it as crazy is textbook gaslighting, regardless of context! Let’s all pray we’re wrong, but if you’re not digging past shallow headlines in 2025, you’re not partaking in your civic duty

The official FBI story: the alleged shooter climbed the roof, ran to his sniper nest, assembled his rifle, was able to hit a 200yard target without zeroing in his rifle all within a 3 minute window, disassembled his rifle, jumped off the roof, and then ran to a field where he assembled his rifle again just to leave it wrapped in a towel

I mean I understand why the US can't afford a Xtian consv. evangelist to be going off on Israel exp. with the MB terrrsts run rampant since Obama, and it sure did shut down the paid pro Palestinian rioters on campus, but seriously, is this the best y'all could do re public political extractions Do better next time.

Charlie was assassinated. Anybody who was watching knows this. Makes no sense for himself to fake a death. Conspiracy of foreign influence maybe, but that is quickly dismissed due to the overwhelming evidence that the shooter was a kid who aligned with the left and was radicalized by the left.

The attempt assassination of Trump and the successful assassination of Kirk are related in the way that there both was staged and done for manipulating the masses. It worked perfectly to the far right party. I said what I said and one day, the truth will come out.

I do believe he was shot an killed but i don’t believe the shooter they put it on. I think there’s more to this just does not make sense. I’m a hunter and for one a 30-06 is exiting out especially of the neck area with damage big time. Makes no sense
reply

i think its fine to ask question, but to seek a answer with out backing of real evidence is what causes the conspiracies, not asking questions are dangerous an seeking answers are useful but unfortunately we will always have people who take things too far

His wife made a dating app while also advertising that she is on it, like. Way too quickly for someone supposedly in mourning.
I'm not even a conspiracy nut, I honestly just think she has a love for the grift and couldn't give it up.

Wow - this is hilarious. Imagine getting paid for this. Imagine this is your job - this is your contribution to society. We need these talking heads to tell us that a tarot card reader is BS. Love the straw manning - this is worthless crap

Elvis did stage his own death. There was no blood on CK or anyone else. A dummy was pulled out of the underground room. I don't believe for a minute the CK is dead. Even, Kash Patel said See you in Valhalla, codeword for witness protection.

Typically you see people knocking down the dumbest of conspiracy theories they can possibly find online and then attribute that idea to anybody who questions the official narrative, as if nobody in doubt has legitimate points to make.
