I really wish they had done this a little more accurately. Ysera DID NOT give her life for Malfurion. She chose it. My hypothesis is that she had darkness in her heart she must have fought against it. The corrupted Tear of Elune hit her straight in the heart. where by their mythology lies in the heart and Ysera gave into the nightmare. It was way too easy (Dragons are not invaluable of course, but they're not easily swayed. They're has always been a catalyst aka hate and all its buddies. Malfurion feels guilt for not BEING the one to die since he was the one that charged after Xevius blinded with rage for what was done to his master and mentor, Cenarius. Did Blizz forget their own story lore? Don't get me wrong, I love this game and happily blame my brother for introducing me when it was just BC. The Legion expansion is my favorite to level up in above the others (I didn't play it when it came out, but I do spam it when leveling now.
If I missed something, I'd like to know. I've studied the cinematics and it doesn't point to where this new cinematic claims. It should have been different, at least in terms of why Malfurion would take her place. This scene is still touching, but annoyingly wrong. Not sure who is writing for WOW now, but whomever it is should know the WOW lore before creating content. It makes for a lousy storyline when WOW has the potential to be freakin' awesome with its storylines.
Over all, love DF much better then SL. I believe that WOW is heading in the right direction. Just hope they stop with the botched storylines. not even going to mention some of the content. That for another rant.
End of rant.

I've seen this kind of plot happenstance again and again on prolonged series and games. When the writers changed and was replaced. Loved and famous characters gets sidetracked, killed or ignored for little to no reason at all. I'm not so informed about Blizzard's writers, but I've got a feel that their writers aren't the same anymore. Famous characters aren't valued the same.
I could only hope that the feminazi propaganda do not invade Blizzard's employees. Most of the famous characters are getting replaced by females and a lot of the sacrifice are the males. Whether it's their power or their importance and position.

This title is misleading. Malfurion didnt die. He temporarily took Ysera's place but he didnt die in the process. The Winter Queen simply moved the bond from Ysera to him. So hes very much alive in ardenweald right now learning things about druidism he didnt and probably couldnt have learned on azeroth. That there is as much power in death as there is in life. That one cannot exist without the other and that the balance he knew of before he got there is small fries compared to the great existential balance that the winter Queen and her sister Elune uphold and maintain.
reply

So let me get this straight. They killed off Malfurion so that Ysera's daughter could replace Ysera? Wow. I remember seeing Tyranda in 2003 for the first time in WOW, wishing to find Mal to see the pair again. A moment I treasured having favored Reign of Chaos. They should have just ended the cycle when Arthus passed. Such a boring way to treat beloved memories.

With Old God quotes like -The vassal of life disguises treachery. Beware the eyes of green. - and -Deeper, deeper its roots will reach. Welcoming our embrace- I have a bad feeling the Night Elves are going to catch another L. The Nightmare still lingers in the Emerald Dream, and a seedling has just been planted empowered by Elune and the Winter Queen.

What an awful story arc for Malfurion, since Cata he's done next to nothing apart from lose and then he gives his life so ysera can come back but she doesnt even stay on as the aspect. Also just makes actual character deaths meaningless if people can just be unbind themselves by swapping souls. Shadowlands is over and its still messing up the canon.
reply

Okaaay, gonna say this here. Malfurion isn't dead. He is in Ardenweald until Ysera is done with her job in Azeroth. The reason she'd never ask it of him is because if she dies on Azeroth he would be stuck there.
So again, he isn't dead, he is just there until Ysera can finish her job and make her daughter an aspect.

Tyrande and malfurion -illidan how could you accept volatile power to help defend our people against the Burning Legion? You're banished forever- also tyrande and malfurion - tyrande it's totally cool if you perform this forbidden ritual to gain dark powers to exact vengeance upon those who killed our people-
reply

So let me get this straight? Malfurion sacrifices himself to bring back Ysera and when he does the daughter of ysera becomes the green aspect which essentially strips ysera of her powers. So he sacrificed himself for nothing unless you say she transferred her powers to her.
reply

Malfurion was set to die in Legion during the nightmare. Ysera -took- his place in that part. Besides he has not been active since the Druids of Flame. He had a minor appearance in BFA but it was not sufficient. Man almost got hacked by High Overlord Saurfang.
reply

This. makes no sense. They wanted Ysera back to take her place once more as the Aspect of the Green Dragonflight, only for her to pass that to her daughter. so that means Malfurion died for nothing. The writers at Blizzard are so pathetic.
reply

I never like Tyrande and Malfurion but why do this to these two. She's so tired and so are we, Malfurion has been useless since the end of War3, and reviving dead character so effortless just made their previous -tragic- death meaningless
reply

Malfurion is a demigod that would destroy most threats on the planet. Why is he dying for an easily replaceable dragon? We saw two other dragon aspects be replaced fairly easily. Malfurion is as old as dirt and can't just be replaced
reply

Malfurion = aight i'll take your place in the after life they need you
Ysera = sike my daughter will take over my position thanks i guess?
Malfurion =.
the amount of crapy writing after legion is just epic lmao

reply

So Malfurion sacrifices himself to bring back Ysera. Her daughter who is already as powerful or more powerful becomes the next aspect when they get their full power back. What was the whole point of bringing back Ysera?
reply

i feel like they could've taken a bit more time to pass the mantle to someone else. then again, they have to pack all that in this expansion as this probably was not going to be touched in the future.
reply

Malfurion is -not needed- in Dragonflight. They'll have him back, riding the new World Tree / Night Elf Capital (now with fire extinguishers) and nothing at all will have been lost.
reply

And that's how the long history of the Stormrage Brothers comes to an end. One as the Jailer of the most evil of Demons, and the other as the Guardian of the Balance of the Afterlife.
reply

The wow writers sidelining yet another OG male character just to bring more strong female characters into the story again? Imagine my shock.
It's so tiring, I miss Metzen.

reply

To truly walk the path of your brother, who gave everything to ensure the safety of our world, required sacrifice Malfurion.
Something that you now finally understand.

reply

its like they are only getting dumber, i hope whoever still plays do so because the gameplays still fun for them cause this story only goes downhill, its beyond rock bottom
reply

Malf died so ysera could let her daughter -spread her wings- lol? The current writers should have their desks cleared out. This is some high school play level shit.
reply

I always get so emo when I see this. Tyrande was so amazing. But then again. I've been a servant to the Dark Lady, our Forsaken Queen, since 2007. Sorry, not sorry! XD
reply

Its funny cuz Illidan would be with her all the time nad probably never left her side. Malfurion is almost always away and now he is there bound in Shadowlands. Kek.
reply

Malfurion was just a fancy trophy wife, kinda sad. - Tyrande should've been the one to trade places with Ysera, and it would make great drama for Illidan too.
reply

The woke crusade to erase all agency from men steams on. They can do it without my support, WoW is a shadow of what it once was and what it could be.
reply

So, they resurected Ysera only to make her step down? xD And what it did cost was. Malfurion. Worst deal in the history of deals ever.
reply

Furion's been trying to catch a break from Tyrande for 10, 000 years and always jumps on every opportunity to take a nap away from her.
reply

Gotta love it, when one of the canonically most xenophobic and spiteful races in Azeroth play at being humble, honorable folk.
reply

Its ok, Malfurion gets a w out of this because it means he doesn't have to deal with Tyrandes shenanigan's anymore
