AROUND THE WORLD IN EIGHTY DAYS - FULL AudioBook Greatest AudioBooks V3 I pulled up to the intersection at Hollywood and Vine and wondered if I should try to beat the light. But traffic was heavy and I decided the wait would be safer. I felt a thud in the car and a fat black woman was sitting next to me and wanted to turn a quick trick. I was young and somewhat religious so I had no idea why the woman was sitting next to me but she was in a hurry so she suggested I study English Literature or Poetry some day and left in a hurry. My journey with Poetry ended well, I was thinking. I liked my High School English teacher during my Senior year and had written a few extra credit poems for her. Usually she laughed at me when returning them and always told me never to major in English. So I laughed at the woman - though I wasnt laughing when I studied a bit and learned what a trick was. I
should not say much lest I be accused of discrimination. We white males get docked for everything and this was horrible.
But I applied to my old High School for substitute teaching and sure enough the school started putting me in English classes. Why, I asked the Department Chair She did not say but I have the feeling that Black Womans message was real. But I hate poetry and literature. I despise it. But the Chair seemed to think Poetry and Literature were public service work and of value.
Im not sure making everyone else read my favorite book is a service to the public. I studied Economics and I figure allocation of scarce resources is a better use of time than choosing a poem for people to read and of greater personal benefit as well. if you go to college you still need to pay the bills.
But I watched the movie version of this book with Jackie Chan a few years ago. Chan does not steal money in the film but gave me a lot of fun, martial arts action scenes as he tried to protect a Jade Buddha. and return it to his ancestral home. So Ive not done this book correctly. Every good English teacher tells you not to watch the movie version but to just read the literature.
So as a public service I have read this book and it is surely one of my favorites and not just because I like Martial Arts.
It is well written, has an interesting plot and a happy ending. I always do what Ive been told in life. even if it hurts. Whether my English teachers like my choice of book or dont. I think Verne is interesting because there are Vernians.
And 80 Days. well, who among us would not love to travel around the world. And today 80 days of round the world travel could buy us a lot of interesting stops and sightseeing. Certainly, if the read was worth the effort Ill bet listening would be fun as well. Happy travels!

I hope that someday there will be a proper film adaptation of this fun story. I vote for Benedict Cumberbatch or Matthew McFayden or Ioan Gruffud as Fogg, an actual French actor as Passporteau, and an actual Indian actress as Aouda, as she is written. If the original story isn’t woke enough for modern audiences, then don’t make it. I’m looking at you, dear Mr. Tennent. The version with David Niven is probably the closest, but they wasted so much time in plotless spectacle.

I was thoroughly enjoying this until those ghastly American narrators took up the story. They can't even correctly pronounce words like quay, taciturn, remonstrance etc and one of them speaks so fast in poor quality recordings I can only make out about every third word. You have really let yourself down on this one and I'm not sure I have the stomach to stick with it to the end if it continues to be narrated by these people.

it's august 2020 I chose this book for my summer reading and I completely lost track of where everything was going and now I hate this book. by the way, I LOVED the first male reader and I don't like how they changed the voice halfway through. I understand that the fist male reader must have been tired and I respect that but I'm just stating my opinion

I get the idea that each chapter was read by someone from a different country, it is ''Around The World in 80 days'', but I found the different accents and pronunciations very distracting and I'm afraid it spoiled the book for me.
reply

It started really well but unfortunately the last chapters read by American put me off stopped following and just heard his horrible where is he at this point I could not listen anymore so did not finish the story.
reply

I am sorry if you take offence but the woman that begins reading about half way through is bad at actions and bring no flow to the story. Next time keep it the same reader the whole way through.
reply

Thanks for the free audiobook, while I echo a lot of the below about the narration being very good initially, then gradually falling off a cliff, I am nevertheless grateful because it's free!
reply

We were bummed to not have the first narrator not finish the book. He was Awesome! But we also figured out that the narrator that read chapter 24 only read half of the chapter.
reply

I didn't like the first reader. He was trying way too hard on all the accents, and passepartout is pronounced pass-y-par-towt. All the other readers were good though.
reply

I could hear stuff in the background after 3 and a half hours in and they kept on making mistakes. It sounded like they were in the storage rooms of a shop or something.
reply

Some of the readers are calling Philias Fogg by the wrong name Phineas. Also way too many commercials and readers giving their websites- way too distracting.
reply

Is it just me or does the reader for Chapter 25 sound a lot like Velma from Scooby Doo Not a complaint, just an observation.
reply

What a description of Mr Fog in the begining. he only lacked to be a virtuoso musician and a gifted sportman
reply

I did not like the last two readers. Very unpractised and they weren’t edited when they made mistakes.
reply

Drag imagine reading for 6 hours straight and helping us for the finals he deserves to be buried in a gold coffin.
reply

guys it’s a free audiobook. if y’all wanted it to sound perfectly well you should’ve bought one
reply

Alex foster did an excellent job reading, the readers who followed him were very unclear with their words.
reply

Sioux is pronounced Soo, winding is not pronounced like wind, and Missouri is not pronounced 'Misery'.
reply

i wish alex foster did the whole thing cause all the others had no life in their voice at all.
reply

Such a great novel. It is my first novel that I read and now it is my first novel to listen.
reply

Written by a french racist. No respect for other countries or cultures. Bad read for non-whites
reply

I would prefer the whole thing to be narrated by the first narrator. What an excelent french accent
reply

Thank you for making this free I needed this for a scho project and it helped me greatly
reply

Thank you I have to read the book for school but it’s too boring for me I needed this
reply

33: 57(chapter 5, ummm. never mind me, just marking a booking mark at me stop!
reply

Why not have one narrator instead of many. Still enjoyed the reading though.
reply

Mark Smith is the best narrator of all time. didn't hear him in this line-up
