Sorry all but this is poor writing. Too vague to do anything other than be a pep talk. Basically gives the same advice everyone already knows: when you have to suppress emotion, then go for it; if you practice suppressing your emotions you'll get better at it. What people really need is helping expressing repressed/suppressed emotion and this is an old-school derivative of the type of thinking we need to get away from.
