It's all so badly written.
You don't receive a sequence of glyphs by radio (be them alien glyphs or Latin alphabet glyphs. Raw signal is a measurement of temporal changes of voltage difference on antenna. If you know the idea how the signal is modulated, you then can convert it to bits (assuming signal is binary, which is likely be true even for alien signals.
Bits, not glyphs!
The signal becomes a text only when you convert groups of bits into images (e. g. every 7 bits to one ASCII letter. With an alien signal, you probably have no idea what this conversion supposed to be.

Is this a real person, or an artificial intelligence generated representation of a real persons narration Either way it’s really really good. I’m 11 minutes and some change into the story. I am riveted. Being blind, I listen to a lot of my books and short stories when I can’t get them in braille. There is no substitute for hardcopy Braille. To feel the paper under my fingers. To smell the paper as I turn the pages. I will miss hard copy. Braille displays are OK as well, although I can’t feel the page under my fingers just the lines of text are available. 10: 47

No mention of a speed of light limitation on communication. No effort to determine the direction that the signal came from. Wouldn't there have been massive government involvement rather than just the original team assigned before they had discovered that alien contact had been made
