I'd have wanted a look at the damage done to my face, somewhere along the way, here. Apparently she was horrifically mutilated, including her face but she didn't seem too bothered. So believable. It might not seem like much, but dismissing basic human reactions or responses ruins engagement, as the story makes itself difficult to accept.
You can have a grounded or fantastical tale, but the second you break the rules you set or the rules you couldn't change, suspension of disbelieve goes elsewhere.
