The Neverending Story [1/2] by Michael Ende Read by Bob Askey Translated by Ralph Manheim Originally issued by NLS on cassette in 1984 I watched the movie when I was a kid but I had never read the book until a few months ago. That was certainly different. I added the illuminated capitals that start each chapter. Kind of clever to have 26 chapters each start with the next letter of the alphabet. A pudgy, lonely, motherless schoolboy enters the magical world of Fantastica when he steals a beautifully bound book and begins The Neverending Story. As he follows the marvelous adventures of the exotic creatures, he learns that only a human from the real world can save this kingdom and that he must enter the story to help them and himself. Ive read this book multiple times.
I first saw it on vhs when i was 9 or 10 yrs old. It's always held a magical spot within my mind.
Hearing it is a great experience.
I like the book & the movie adaptation.
Thanks for this!

The transformation into a strong handsome brave-heart disappointed me. True, we all want to look different, but he did all he did as he was, and instead of changing how he thought of himself, he was changed into a stereotype. Pity that.

I never read this book as a kid, only saw the movie! This is amazing and should become a series like Game of Thrones.

This narrator is the best. Bob read Rage by Richard Bachman (King) as you know him. That is the best audiobook ever!
