Sci-Fi Short Film On Sunday - DUST

An old man and his dog make their routine walk to the isolated clifftops of Cornwall. but this time they find out they're not so isolated after all. On Sunday by David Lea The beauty of these short films is that they keep it simple and leave room for speculative discussion, which is part of the fun. Good writing keeps you asking questions, but at the same time you dont want the mystery to be over, because once the mystery is over, the fun is over.
The smile on the old guys face at the end, though. Once over the initial shock, and the realization of what he saw hitting home was classic; an old man in the twilight of his life found new joy and child-like wonder in something alien and inexplicable.

Rusty barnicle covered alien ship, full of holes, barely operational. and a little boat, sunk long ago, trapped on the alien ships skin, tiny anchor swinging. such a powerful vision. Then the ship gears up. and leaves. Called to home
The mans utter silence, shocked into freezing. then that smile. We are not alone. There is more than we can know. What will tomorrow bring Thats my take. We all put our own feelings into such a powerful event. Wonderful movie. Just perfection.

They were trying to illustrate what it's like to see a close sighting of a UFO, especially the spectacular ones. I've seen them, and one, would be right in line, nothing like the look of this one, but the awe of it's being there, the same, and also going into warp as well. You wrestle with this, what is, you have seen but not should have and it's not like some watching some thing like this video.

When you hear about show don't tell they should show this film in film school to drive that point home. Well done from a story telling and technical standpoint. More so when you limit yourself to 0 dialogue. Splodies might be cool at times but give me a film with a story to chew on instead of eye candy. I love clicking on a random Dust movie and coming up with a winner like this: )

So obtuse it's pointless. Somehow people get the idea that publishing something that has no apparent meaning is a good thing. Art with no clearly discernable statement teaches nothing. While I do believe alien life is not only possible but highly likely I've seen no actual evidence. This short does nothing to change that either way.

You can read volumes on his face. On the way out, he's just going through the motions. Nothing ever changes. He sees the ship and he's thinking 'What How' Then the ship is gone and he's sitting at home thinking 'I can't even tell anyone. They'll think I'm mad! But I know what happened to that old rowboat! '

Was one of the first Dust videos I watched. I half dismissed it at the time, but re-watched it a couple of times since, and this time absolutely get it.
The video hasn't changed, so maybe I have.
I hope the team that made it went on to bigger and better things.
Class.

This spaceship was left at the bottom of the Sea by the intelligent ancestors of whales. Millions of years ago they destroyed an intelligent but ferocious race of reptiles from the face of the earth. Source: Galactic human book of Sheldon Nidle

So, is there any feasible explanation why there was not an instant vacuum boom. I guess it did break the sound barrier so I wonder how in theory you could hide the sound (anti-sound: D)

This video describes my first sighting. The only difference is that my sighting was not near water, and my wife and 2 daughters were present. To this day we don't talk about it.

In one of those photos he looks exactly like Tom Baker, he was one of the Doctors Who from the early 80s! Initially had me thinking there was a tie-in somewhere.
reply

For a second after it went quite I thought it broke down and was going to fall back in the sea. But then it shot off in a flash. That was great.
reply

True!
So much was said in every second, made me feel like, 'this could be anyone - me'.
Made my sensitivities jump to a new place.

This is great. If I had one suggestion it would be to keep the ending music rolling into the end sequence so there is not a jarring transition.
reply

Nicely done. Very nicely. A good touch would have been if there was some magnificent swilling of the clouds as the ship passed through.

These short videos are fantastic, thought provoking and say alot about how we live our lives, especially this one

In the top 3 of Dust shorts, no fuzz around, no unnecessary suspense, good story with a meaning, it deserves more likes.

I don't blame the old guy for crying at the end. If I had seen that I would have pooped my pants.

Plot twist: all the lightnings on the horizon were the other ships of the fleet.

That guys face tho. Mind Blown, perception of the universe forever changed. Love it!

The voice on the shipping forecast isn’t of the type you’d hear on Radio 4.
reply

I think the row boat sitting on the ship should have fallen back to Earth
reply

Seeing something like that would make anyone question their whole existence.
reply

Listing the actors would be a fine thing to add in the SHOW MORE section.
reply

He smiles at the end because he finally knows the answer to are we alone.
reply

BTW that little rowboat on top of that alien ship was called Tesla.
reply

POOOOF. Away they go without even saying goodbye! Damn Aliens!
reply

That was a fish that he never caught and he was happy it got away.
reply

He had to draw them quickly as long as he remembered them.
reply

Probably 1000 years repair lasted and finally flew away.
