The [native] species is extremely hostile. This is easily the best line in the film, and it has all the appropriate layers of irony to make for excellent science fiction. The human settlers of the Homestead project have all but wiped the natives off their own planet going back to 1972, as human settlers have historically done pretty much everywhere. Only in this case the usurped native species aren't the pushovers the settlers originally think for 1) being able to adapt far better than the humans expect them to and 2) exacting the same types of vengeance we would have unleashed had it been our planet being taken over.
Her begging for mercy as she knows he is about to walk in and find his children massacred is probably fitting as many of these species likely begged for mercy and didn't get any when the humans settled and tried to obliterate them. The audience of human beings likely feels torn here, at least a bit in this conclusion; our desire for self preservation wants her to survive as a fellow human being, but we also know she is about to get what she deserves for the pain she has unleashed on this family. Perfect ending, really.
Great stuff!

It was not part of their blood,
It came to them very late,
With long arrears to make good,
When the Saxon began to hate.
They were not easily moved,
They were icy -- willing to wait
Till every count should be proved,
Ere the Saxon began to hate.
Their voices were even and low.
Their eyes were level and straight.
There was neither sign nor show
When the Saxon began to hate.
It was not preached to the crowd.
It was not taught by the state.
No man spoke it aloud
When the Saxon began to hate.
It was not suddently bred.
It will not swiftly abate.
Through the chilled years ahead,
When Time shall count from the date
That the Saxon began to hate.

Very entertaining. That's what makes a good movie for me. A good story, good acting and directing, as well as a good set and good filming. If I can get 2 or 3 of these then I know I have found a good move worth watching. As it turns out, this short had all of what it takes to make a great, watchable movie. Evoking emotions is the last thing that makes me like what I've seen.
Congrats, and great work. I'll keep an eye out for your films. tomato meter: 9. 5

I thoroughly enjoyed watching this short film! I had to watch it 5 times (4 of which in slow motion and with closed captions on) in order to pick up all the nuances. A brilliant critique of colonialism, one that was way overdue.

What's an ironic! The meritful human make an interstellar journey with the most advance technology to be a 1970's low-tech agressive killer farmer on the Planet land of modest reptilian.

This was an awesome short. Everything about it was top shelf, first rate. I also want to mention the late Robert Forster. He was a tremendous character actor with a long career. RIP.

This was made some years ago. Robert Forster played the dad who we assume comes home. He died in 2019.
Wonder if the kid who gets killed over the radio broadcast was done by the dad.

Gripping, I was glued to the screen for the entire 18 min. Hated the ending but we can't all have rainbows and fairy tails. Overall well done. Another perfect short.

A suspenseful, surprising story, portraying a struggle for survival between two hostile races of beings. Very well produced, directed and acted.
