Why do games cost so much to make?

AAA gaming has become huge and costly, sometimes resulting in business practices that anger consumers. How did we get here? Let's talk tzeki: While it is true that more people work on a game I don't think that makes f2p mechanics in full price titles acceptable. Because on the other side, big publishers do tax evasion, underpay devs and voice actors, outsource graphic works to cheap Chinese studios, reuse graphics and game mechanics, use game engines and they already have ways to make additional money rendering the 60 dollar pricetag argument worthless: preorder bonuses, day one editions, a multitude of deluxe editions, collectors editions, regular dlcs, mechanics preventing reselling of a game etc. so why do AAA games cost that much? Marketing. Stuff like big billboard ads, TV ads (with celebrities) or replacing good and well liked voice actors with celebrities (though they mostly do a bad job compared to the normal VAs) etc. Just remember these huge ass posters rockstar had put on a tall hotel for GTA V. there's a reason why publishers don't publicly release the costs for game making.

Yes but a comparison between GTA 5 and Horizon isn't particularly accurate. In GTA, you're talking a game with a massive online factor, practically a separate game altogether from the single-player experience. A significant portion of that $200 million budget has to include online maintenance as well for the initial startup or first few months. Most importantly, Horizon is on one console, whereas GTA was on several, with all the problems and bugs this would include. Don't forget that it was also planned as being multi-generational, which was also factored into the developmental budget.

if they were smart theyd make the games like cod where they pump out a new one every year a little bit cheaper, like say 40 instead of 60 at release, then id let them get away with some of their microtrans like outfits and stuff so that they make that money back on a fairly large margin of people that will put just $5 or something on it every few weeks, youd hit a larger group of people on release and end up with more money in your pocket because more people could buy the damn game thus making their numbers look bigger at the beginning

games in the past have had fixed camera this means a 3d model was actually a model that looks 3d from one area, but if you rottate the game camera, there will be black picture behind and below the model, meaning it was more of a 2d picture than a 3d model.

Hey Gameranx what's the closest game to perfection? Like if you had to think of a game that's you would consider the best game ever in history what would it be? (Also you have to have facts and statistics not just you just your favorite game).

$60 plus bucks fox a PS4 and Xbox controller really? New game prices are outrageous, from $44-$63 a game oh H-'ll no save your money. You spend a thousand dollars on games within a year or months depending on the person spending habits.

With 1 million dollars you can afford a team of 8 assistent-level workers for 10 months (salaries and taxes).-
Just imagine paying a team of 200+ highly qualified workers for 3-5 years ??

Hey, I would love to see a video about what you think makes a game world feel more lived in than others. I doubt that anyone will ever notice this one comment...but can't blame a guy for asking.

AAA publisher can give us a fun game and sell DLCs that make it more fun. Not taking the fun out of the vanilla version and force us to pay more for the finished product. That's greedy and lazy.

i will still take a well written linear game over an open-world game any day. lately, the bigger maps arent just as fun anymore, smaller worlds play better and usually feel more tight
