Why was need for speed: underground a big deal?

The Need for Speed racing game series has a shining star, and its name is Underground 1 & 2. Here's why we loved these games Luke: NFSU just hit me at the right time. We got a PS2 for Christmas 2003 and I couldn-t believe my parents had bought that game from the ad on tv where the stock car turns into a lichen. It wasn-t even the main game I-d asked for. Then NFSU2 came out and again, it wasn-t the game I asked for but my god, did I pour more hours into it than any other game I owned at the time. It was my GTA before I ever played GTA. My parents were pretty sensible about not letting me play GTA as a child. I only downloaded GTA V last year and I-m still working through the story. I have some problems with it but it-s really fun. I do miss the old days of arcade racers and feeling like I was cooler than I was, sitting in my sweat pants putting an ugly-ass spoiler onto a Peugeot 107
Man. EA games used to be incredible.

Amazing game but I can't believe u put legendary nfs most wanted under the list of games not as good as underground (at 5:34)
The city was different, the cops , the story , the classic BMW (which was so hype and comes in every nfs games ever since ), not to mention most wanted ending was so mind blowing I play nfs most wanted today and won't get bored a single time but in underground other than drag and drift other all feel repitive races and inferior to most wanted
Underground is not as great as most wanted

agree with you. these NFS games where the best... one thing i noticed having the PC and PS version... the PS verson had a Vauxhal/Opel Corsa (which was my real life car at the time) and the PC version did not - i was so upset because i had a PC that would look better than the PS graphics and i was so SAD there was no Corsa ... other than that, this game was the best!

Underground and Most Wanted are my most favorite games - Both had amazing soundtracks and very fun! Miss em
I would play with my brother a lot and I-m not sure if it was 2005 or what. But definitely had tons of great memories. And tons of times I got super pissed lol. I replay it from time to time. And the game still challenges me

Words cannot describe how amazed I was when I first experienced this game's phenomenal graphics back in 2004. Even till this day the entire night scene still gives me chills whenever I play it, hearing those 2000s rock songs almost brought a tear to my eye. Back when life was fulfilling and meaningful I guess

Freaking nuts!! I remember returning from school, get into the door and seeing my dad playing this game! Of course, I'll be calling my bro or just wait for our turn. This, and Gran Turismo 3, mainly. What a time... Too fast to comprehend. But, still need to let it fly. -Un-erasable memories...-

i was one of those ones who hated tha Underground series or any NFS game made after 2002 when it 1st came out but i understand what they was marketing but i still miss tha Pre-Underground style but eh it is what it is

I remember getting the game for my birthday from my grandma, and oh damn I was so so so happy with the game. Now it's just laying somewhere underneath the dust, deep inside a closet I think..

I'm 32, flash back to my youth. Good times. NFSUG2 was incredible, clocked that in less than a week well before the days of trophies and achievements ruined gaming for lots of us.

Being in my mid 30s now, I grew on on the NFS titles of the 90s, not this. This was everything that NFS isn't. I remember going from HP2 to this and was thoroughly unimpressed.
