Hades 2 is very good
At first I didn’t like it at all but stayed because of the art
(It is a first rogue like that I’ve played so dying was way too annoying)
But with time I’ve realized how cool it is
It is basically like having an arcade machine at home (or at list - that’s the vibe I’ve been getting, it is opened on my deck since I’ve bought it)
And after/between work
You can pop in, try to go again, but it will be slightly different from time to time
And story will unfold even if you are on the same exact spot for weeks)
So I guess it’s an awesome game for working gamers among us
Definitely recommend!
Even convinced me to buy one more rogue like game once I will finish this one, we will see)
Pacific drive sadly didn’t really stick with me, even thought on paper it is awesome for me
Nor did dragons dogma, can’t find 100 hours straight for a game with complex story
Even thought obviously found exactly that for hades 2 style one )

You DO play as the Prince of Persia in the Lost Crown. The villain is the son of the ex King. While Sargon is revealed to be the son of the Queen. Someone changed the babies at birth in order to protect the REAL prince, which is heavily hinted at to be Sargon. So yeah, you do play as the prince of persia, you just dont know it. The villain is also the prince of persia or would be prince.

Shadow of the Erdtree really just feels like Elden Ring 1. 5. I just beat the second Remembrance boss and reached the next area. My jaw dropped because of how big it actually is. Limgrave-sized my ass lol. I've seen a bit of the verticality but nothing like what I've heard some people say yet. Playing with Rellana's Twin Blades now and man, they shred. I'm having way too much fun

Man the PS4 is still going stront so many great games came out for it this year games like: ( Systeam shock remake / persona 3 reload / prince of persia lost crown / like a dragon infinite wealth / Shim megami tensei V vengeance / grandblue fantasy relink, I know that this year is not as strong as last year for PS4 owners but i am still happy that the PS4 still getting some love

In this list I can only agree with Palworld. Helldivers was ok for a live service. Enshrouded is decent for that genre of game. Stellar blade is decent as an F U to the uglify the industry trans crowd. That's it. Banishers didn't fly under the rug. It just wasn't good. Decent concept, but anything that wants to girl boss these days people aren't as receptive to anymore.

is it just me, or gameranx's meaning of Souls Like is so diluted now, like I remember souls like are game with a stamina meter so that you don't just mash buttons, dark and bleak aesthetic and unforgiving combat where dodging/blocking/parry is a must. Games where you can just spam attacks and dodges are hack n slash type of games not souls like.

Selaco is a game that really caught my attention; a love letter to FEAR in the GZDoom engine, and it's amazing.
It's difficult to make a shooter where every weapon in your arsenal feels great and useful, but Selaco manages it. I was never at a point where I was just using one single weapon for an extended period.

Rise of the Ronin was nowhere near as bad as people were trying to make it seem. Yes, it could look better graphically, but it was still a solid game imo. Sucks that people act like Ghost of Tsushima was the first samurai game and now will shit on any other samurai game because it doesn't look and/or play like GoT.

STILL wakes the DEEP deserved to be on this list over some of these games, at the very least one of the bonus games. Excellent storytelling horror with a great atmosphere and great voice acting. But what really makes it shines is it’s movement mechanics. Gives you a lot of freedom with your camera movement.

For me:
1. Persona 3 Reload
2. Hades 2
3. Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes
4. Hellblade 2
5. Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance
6. Stardew Valley 1. 6
Those are about the only 2024 games I've really played a lot, but my favorite game this year wasn't from 2024 - Octopath Traveler 2!

1. Rebirth
2. Balatro
3. Erdtree (just booting the game launched it to the top 5 for me)
4. Prince of Persia
5. Night Springs DLC
Those are the only games I’ve loved this year. First half of the year has been a bit low to mid-tier for me, but the second half looks to be a huge step up.

The discourse on Hellblade 2 is crazy. Even the games-as-art crowd has turned on it because it doesn't have enough fetch quests or whatever. And that it comes a spot behind Helldivers 2, a live service game with a nefarious data-mining underbelly, kinda demonstrates the sad state of the industry.

it bothers me when people refer to other creature collector monsters as pokemon, itd be like calling every gun in every shooter an m16. Pals are pals, shouldn't be connected to pokemon. I think people are smart enough to understand pals are the creatures you collect in this monster collecting game

Saying Dragons Dogma 2 is best game of first half of 2024 is really misleading since the game still didn't get any performance patch. In DD2 literally best hardware money can buy can barely squeeze 60 fps and on regular hardware that meets the requirements its not even 60.

An idea: Top 10 Games you can play on mobile.
1) Grim Valor
2) Transistor
3) Nexomon
4) Alto’s Odyssey
5) Iron Marines 1 and 2
6) Auralux: Constellations
7) Hyperlight Drifter
8) Crashlands
I leave the last 2 to comments.

My number one would have been Stellar Blade, that game is just a vibe. From the aesthetics, combat, bosses, the characters and most importantly the music, especially the boss music was next level. I got platinum trophy for the base and new game plus.

Manor Lords is created by no team. Just one person. Whole game, whole studio, ONE person. Just wanted to point that out, because if that dude had a studio of even 5 people. imagine what they could do.
How did V Rising not make this list

reply

When I played the prince of Persia demo I honestly thought people would hate it I didn't think that there was a space for 2d scrollers anymore I also never played the first game only heard all of the hype for the new game
reply

I guess I can understand why they put it so low on the list since it’s just dlc and not an actual game, but Shadow of the Erdtree definitely should be somewhere in the top 5! It’s definitely my number one!
reply

I know it literally just dropped like a week ago, but I was a bit bummed to not see Fallen Aces make at least honorable mention. Really good, heavy Immersive Sim vibes in that one. And happy to see DD2 make #1!
