Elden Ring sequel and microtransacations: That's right. Give them ideas. And I'll continue to say this: the microtransactions in the REcent REmakes of the RE games, as well as Dragon's Dogma 2 (and especially DMC 5) is completely antithetical to how those games are played. One is essentially paying money to NOT play the game and personally, I think these micros ruin the fun and the replay value, thus, the compulsion to spend the money just isn't there.
That said, some people don't have enough time on their hands and are willing to spend the money to experience certain aspects of said games they wouldn't be able to otherwise. Clearly, there are such consumers buying this stuff, otherwise Capcom wouldn't continue to put them in there. I can understanding not liking the idea of micros in some of Capcom's REcent games on principle, but that's really about it and they can just be ignored entirely. Just imagine if Infinite Devil Trigger or the Handcannon access WAS locked behind a paywall.

Agreed with all this. And here's the great thing: the power is in the hands of the consumer. You can just not utilize microtransactions in a game. If you are against them in principle, don't buy the game at all. If you feel that even if you avoid them, the grinding is not tenable, then same thing: don't buy the game. We all know why they keep doing this: because microtransactions (broadly) still work, by which I mean they bring in revenue. And that revenue usually helps translate into profit.
If the microtranscations truly suck, the community can show that by acting accordingly. The problem is: they really don't. It's kind of like all the people who complain about how cookier-cutter Call of Duty became and they weren't going to buy it ever again -- and then on day one, each entry rakes in half a billion dollars. Or how mobile gaming sucks but it somehow outpaces all other gaming by orders of magnitude.

I think the only micro transactions I hate are the ones that are in Fortnite and Call of Duty. Because even though most of the stuff is limited timed stuff, if I don't buy it, I never know when it will pop up again. And then, when it does come around, I don't have the money for it anymore. The wishlist feature came really late because Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is just sitting on my console since it came with the console. I'm not rich, so I can't buy every bundle I like. I also lag too much to enjoy the game. I feel like if any Call of Duty game is going to be a hit, there should be no micro transactions and everything military-themed, no colorful stuff. Or if they are going to forever have micro transactions, I'd like a $10 non-changing subscription that would allow me to get any bundle I want for free for a month.

Interestingly, I heard a while back that in Asia, the microtransaction topic isn't that big of a controversy.
their take is, that people worked hard for their money, and should be free to do with it whatever they want. And I get it. People are stressed from work, and just want to relax by playing an hour or two in their latest game. Why shouldn't they spend a bit more to make it more enjoyable for themself They might not have the time to go that in-depth and learn all the mechanicsa and find all the tedious secrets.
My own take is, if it only affects single-player, who cares I'm not going to shame anyone over it.
It's not like they take away the joy other players have through the sheer power of their credit card.
Let them play it how they like, I will play it how I like.

I'd say that we should, in our respective countries, where possible, petition to make it a legal requirement that if a single player game relies on a central server, that before shutting down that required server, since they are ending support, that the last patch allows the game to continue on after support ends, since if the game has no multiplayer aspect, then they should still be able to play the game after the end of life of the server. Multiplayer Games should be at the end of life, have a patch made available by the publisher that allows homebrew server running, but only at the end of life, so by that point the toxic players ruining legit players time is a moot point since by then the homebrew servers would be sorted between clean play and cheat play

Need for speed unbound is the worst. I bought the game for full price. A year and a half after the game comes out they put the speed pass into single player. Locking some new cars behind the speed pass. Sure I like the thought that they can add dlc, but adding a battle pass mechanic to a paid single player game is kinda nuts. They put the new mustang into the game and it’s locked behind the speed pass. It’s actually insane. I will not buy the speed pass. I will use the old mustang lol
If people don’t push back they will keep doing this and every paid game will have a battle pass to progress.
A battle pass makes sense in a free to play game to make money. But a game I all ready put money into is insane to then force me to buy a speed pass.

The microtransaction that really made me mad is the one added to the Tales Of series.
Those are ALL bonuses from the New Game shop. Originally, you had to finish the game, and depending on your accomplishments (level of characters, optional bosses beaten, legandary weapons found, etc, you'd get points, and those points would be used to buy bonuses for the NG run you were about to start.
Now, for $10 you can start with your experience gains multiplied by 3, endgame weapons and near infinite healing items, and ocmpletely trivialize the progression, making the difficulty completely unbalanced. Feels like a spit in the face of players who knew the previous games in the series.

The facepalming gets painful when the microtransactions being sold are cosmetics but other than a few cutscenes the game is first person so the point of wearing something awesome/pretty evaporates.
Once Human is an upcoming release which has rung quite a large alarm bell by the cancelling of their prelaunch test of the cash shop. Being a F2P title I'm already suspicious that things like the fast travel costs will be adjusted to direct folk towards the cash option. From what I gather the plan is also a 6 week reset cycle which seems like an attempt to hook the unwary rather than rely on long term wahling

This is exactly why I don't even buy videogames that aren't exclusives anymore.
Exclusive games from Nintendo and Sony are there to sell you consoles, therefore, they make the best games possible without any bs so that you buy consoles.
There is no Call of Duty, Battlefield, Assassin's Creed, etc. in this house. They are all worthless, they used to be great, they are trash now, if they don't stop micro transactions this industry will fall as a whole eventually. (And frankly, I hope, crave and strongly desire to see the day Ubisoft and Electronic Arts to fall into the depths of hell)

And once again with the revisionist history on the horse armor thing. What happened was that Bethesda released a whole BUNCH of things, from the horse armor, to a sweet looking tower you could use as your house, all the way up to a big quest and dungeon. Nobody had really done anything like this before, so they made the price the same for each one of those things to try and figure out how much work they need to do to earn a couple of bucks. (I wonder if they ever told the world how that worked out Maybe you should ask them. I think it'd make a good video)

I HAVE NEVER BOUGHT A MTX IN MY LIFE. AND I NEVER WILL. IF PEOPLE WOULD STOP BUYING THEM, THEY WOULD STOP PUTTING THEM IN GAMES. SIMPLE AS THAT. NOW, DLC'S ARE A DIFFERENT STORY. REMNANT 2 DLC WAS AMAZING, ELDEN RING DLC IS AMAZING, DEAD CELLS DLC WAS GREAT. DLC IS OK IN MY BOOK, UNLESS YOU ARE BLIZZARD AND HAVE AN ULTIMATE EDITION OF A DLC THAT COSTS $90 FOR LESS THAN 10 HOURS OF CONTENT. People, please stop buying these MTX's.

Micro transactions in full priced single player games should be illegal, I've already paid for the product you promised so should I continue to pay more in the form of micro transactions If they release an expansion of the game with extra decent content then yeah they can charge for the dlc but not another full price. On the other hand free to play mmo with micro transactions is fine because that's their only model to make money.

I will say, I don't hate microtransactions. I hate the way they are implamented. As a person who doesn't have the time anymore to invest 75-100 hours in games anymore, I can understand the concept of fast tracking a game. That being said, microtransactions as they stand currently are usually re-used assets, artificially lengthen a barebones game, and make attainable things in a game more difficult than they need to be.

Microtransactions in single player games suck because for the longest time, we were told by publishers, their corporate paymasters and their shilling simp defenders that increasing the base msrp for games from 60$ to 70$ would reduce the need for microtransactions while also safeguarding developer jobs. Neither of those things were true and yet people STILL defend it. That's why it is so egregious.

I accidentally open the in game store in Avatar Frontiers of Pandora at least once an hour and it makes me rage seeing that in a single player game. I'd burn my money before buying anything in there.
Fallout 4 is my #3 game of all time. I have more than a thousand hours in the game but I haven't bought a single thing from the Creation Club store. I will not support that garbage.

Im all for a free to play mmo having purchasable cosmetic items or map expansions with new things to do in games ive purchased, go ahead, suck me into spending money, just dont let it take away from what you already created, remember WHO and WHY your making added content for THAT game, the many people who made your games successfull aren't a cow you can milk whenever you want.

I absolutely loved the microtransactions in Marvel's Avengers! They did it absolutely perfectly, instead of spending money you could just give yourself currency through cheat engine.
Most microtx stores keep their currency server side.
i was able to unlock every skin that could be drawn from a lootbox. Some skins were cash only, but the majority you could get for free

I've never understood why people will buy a game and then spend additional money on time-savers to play less of it. It kind of makes sense if the player likes the game but doesn't have time to get the most out of it, because, you know, life, but it's still a swindle. You're playing a game you paid for and then paying more to, in effect, remove bought elements of the game.

I'm very torn with Bethesda. but I think they kinda have the best idea You can pay Bethesda for Bethesda stuff you know will work or you can play with free downloads and hope they did a good job and in most cases, people do. but it's not guaranteed. My question is why am I paying Bethesda for shit they should have put in the game in the first place. I don't know.

Adding stores after review copies are sent out does virtually nobody any good. People think reviewers are lying to them, players don't know what they are buying and get a worse product and the game gets absolutely slammed by angry people who are suddenly faced with paying for stuff they thought was in the game. Its terrible PR and that puts off newer players.
