Ugh, my love/hate relationship with Canon continues. They make some of the most reliable and user-oriented camcorders for video and filmmaking use but they're so paranoid about cannibalizing those sales that they refuse to include proper video features in their DSLRs and mirrorless cams. If you're starting out and need a cheap camera to mess around on, Sony and Panasonic are better options now. If you need a full-on camcorder for pro work, Canon's still a major player.

One of the challenges with HDMI out is that some cameras refuse to display anything on HDMI during recording. The lower cost Lumix cameras are like this and require you to use the app. The higher end cameras have a clean HDMI out that you can use while recording, but I guess this feature was locked off in the firmware for the lower end units. I have a ZS-100 and while the firmware is basically the same as a GX85, it doesn't offer HDMI out during record. :-(

I said goodbye to Canon once the announcement for the 5D Mark II's specs were released. and I've never regretted it. The absolutely cripple their cameras in an attempt to protect their pro line-up, something that never made a lick of sense to me. The Canon RP a perfect example of this, something made even more silly by the fact that their most recent higher end cameras have now been out for several years at this point.

I don't believe that the crop is the issue here, you can just reframe your shot and you're off. The issue is that they have crippled the features of the camera otherwise. No DPAF and you're limited to 24FPS. you cannot even shoot 24FPS when not in 4k mode they've limited that as well. This is a perfectly fine camera for still but it's so limited for video. Great video BTW! Very informative.

The kids not happy with his fake camera anymore Am I the only one that sees this commercial is ripe with oedipal complexes? Freud would have a field day with this! Or, - is it that in order to compensate the exorbitant cost of my psychology minor, I look for needless connections to Greek myth between father and son interpersonal bonds to justify said cost?

It's only 449 grams. for everyone in Europe, it does do 4k at 25. The new 9 point AF with eye tracking is great in everything but 4k where you get more of a contrast-based AF which is fine in a controlled interview situation but in anything else, you need to be a hot shot on manual focus, everything else is the same as the SL2, same battery etc. etc.

Wow, I can't believe this show came back! I discovered Indy Mogul years after it ended (for the first time) and watched every episode of Indy News. I've been waiting for this day and it's finally here!

No 24fps at 1080p? That makes no sense. And no Dual Pixel AF in 4K? That's why I didn't buy the Canon M50. Canon just wants us to spend $3000 and up to get a camera that does what we want.
reply

I want it, but I have a problem. I own a 350D (Rebel XT as it was branded here in the US) and it would just get confusing having the 250D be far and away more powerful than my 350D.

I think if youre looking for a real budget/cheap 4k with flip out screen, you should consider Panasonic g7, at least only has 2x crop compare to this which has 2. 6 something.

this is the indi mogul dude i know, griffin. dont kno the other younger lookin dude, u thought me how to make my first diy light lol. when i was just startin video

HDMI; 80ms lag? Does the GH5 have this problem too? How are people doing live streams with GH5 cameras via HDMI to a video mixer like the Roland V-1HD?
reply

I would recommend against buying the Canon 250D. Just go for a Lumix G80/G85. Much more features, less weird quirks and a lesser crop factor in 4K.
reply

Why Canon, why? .Sony 6400 seems do have figured out how to provide all those features in 4k that are limited on the Canon camera.
reply

Yes, like some of the comments mentioning Panasonic and Sony options, the Panasonic GX85 is another cheaper 4k camera.
reply

Actually I don't pick it up. I'm just a fan of sony cameras, but thanks for the presentation. Really liked it!

I own. A. Rebel sl2 200D and it's amazing and has a wide cannon sensor this didn't sound pleasing for 600$
