So basically you are saying that all of Eric's and everyone else's prior DIY videos are worthless. That no one should ever do DIY because prices of gear are so cheap. I can tell you right now, gear that is cheap is likely so low quality that it won't survive the average wear and tear on a film set. I understand why Indy Mogul wants to go more pro in their film making advice. They are their own downfall. Give tons of film makers info and good DIY builds and then once that generation has moved on you don't get the same views from the next generation as the knowledge is out there and accessible. Over the last few years I have bought gear from a varietly of sources and most of the good stuff is more expensive than most teenage film makers could afford. The cheap stuff is mostly just that. It is poor quality and that would disappoint any film maker. So far the new Indy Mogul has reviewed gear and compared it to pro items. Lets see you compare cameras or lights that you buy of Wish or Alibaba and other cheap sites. I think the recommendations would be don't waste you money. Really wish you had announced your brand refocus a bit more clearly. Your advice is good for the most part but I think there is a disconnect there between what you economic reality is and that of most teenage film makers. I know I didn't have $400. 00 to spend on a pro light stand or $500. 00 for a studio grade wind machine.

I kinda hate the obsession with 3d printing. So much of what's done with them is better done in basically any other way and the expense of a decently robust one is enough that you'd be better off getting a small cnc mill (or realistically a used manual mill and convert it to cnc) which will let you do metal and plastic--and I know for me personally, the learning curve for machining was hella lower than for 3d printing, and I learned machining first, so a bunch of the crossover stuff like pathing, measuring, and the like is on the machining side. There's just so much more to go wrong with 3d printing.
And to be clear, I'm not hating on 3d printing. The things it's great for it's amazing for, but they're not the great general thing-maker people think.

I too love China balls. Didn't some company show a reasonably priced bowens mount, collapsable, fabric china ball with cool velcro shading fabric at NAB 2019? When I went to that unnamed company's site, I don't see anything about it even though I have a fist full of not terribly much money yelling Take my money! at the screen.

Lol. Just this past weekend pricing out PVC for a backdrop/green screen. An OK on Amazon was cheaper than the PVC itself would cost.
Definitely price out your materials lists and see if it would be worth paying $5 more to not have the agro of the build when you can buy off the shelf: )

I really like the ad countdown timer in the corner. I'm not sure why, but it makes the ad read more tolerable somehow. Maybe it's just because it makes it feel finite and therefore survivable. Either way, just wanted to call out that tiny but appreciated detail

LOL! DIY yourself a bolt. Awesome! p. s. Tools on set - nickles. Ya know, those old school coin things we used to buy things with? Useful for camera screws and QR plates. I tried using a credit card, doesn't work. :)

Watching BFX is what made me want to make movies. I have finally figured out the format I want to film in and how to present my content. But I would like to know what camera would be good for shooting an action scene?

Good memories. My first music video was shot on a GL1 and we built a dolly from plywood, angle irons, and skateboard wheels and of course PVC pipes for the tracks. Was terrible storing and transporting that thing.

any other alternatives to high CRI diy lights? It seems Indonesia doesn't sell high cri bulbs anywhere, which is very frustrating. could be tungsten, but those takes a lot of energy and is very hot.

I also always carry a small plumber wrench, for everything that tends to get stuck, and a large flathead screwdriver, grinded down to fit the large slit common in camera screws.

I was an Indy Mogul fiend back in the day and Erik's builds got me jazzed up every time and fueled my filmmaking back then. I'm so glad it's so so SO much easier now

What a great trip back in time to the glory days of DIY filmmaking. I LOVE the innovative problem solving skills that a lot of these solutions help to develop.

Great video, I really liked it, but if you're including a 10 and a 45-second ad into the video, why interrupt the video with two 5-15 second ads?

So, Erik carries a knife, blanket and gaffe tape with him everywhere, has sound proofed his garage and there's blood on the walls.
Sounds legit

Erik is a great friend and a true visionary. Seeing the old school Indy clips gives me just a blast of nostalgia. So great!

The 5-in-1 screw/nut driver can accept additional bits, and comes with, as you can imagine, 5 included. Extremely handy tool.
