Speakin' of politics & football, the difference between how Europeans & Americans play football is:
- Europeans play football to win, so play by the rules
- Americans play football by insuring their opponent loses and don't care how they manage this, even if it's by way of cheating
The same is for politics where European ads for their politician is all about what he will do once he gets elected, while the American ads are all about what will happen if his political opponent wins [= a smear campain].
So it shouldn't come as a surprise why Americans distrust the democratic proces.

Maher should claim some credit becuase of his willingness to have GOP pundits & politicians on his show - spreading disinformation without STRONG pushback - and creating a false equivalency between the two Parties in terms of connection to reality & truth - his constant tribal analogies also doing the same thing.
He might have saved the post-mordem for after the election instead of just throwing in the towel. But so many want to make the predictions so they can say - Look, I told you so thinking it might help their cred.

I don't know if Brazil's Presidential election was only to elect the president or if all the state and local elections were also on the ballot. It would be much easier to administer an election if there is only one question on the ballot and if the entire country used the same system.
But here in the US, every state has a different system, with different equipment, and different rules. Plus there is no chance that you could get all 50 states to agree on one system to use.

The so called statement that the left is putting out that if Republicans win an election is the end of democracy is ludicrous. A one party system is Communism. The left want total control, that's Communism. Democracy is the exchange of ideas from more than one party. Please stop changing definitions to suit your narrative. It is influencing the public into thinking they would lose their way of life if a 2 party system remains in place. It is the complete opposite.

Wow. From the man that gave us religulous. Religion should top the list. It informs world view. It makes working together impossible. With so many believing this earth is ours to use up. The will of a magical being. Literally fighting to reverse progress because they just have to be right. So they can feel good. Tribalism galore. This genetic trait once may have helped humans survive but I think is likely an evolutionary dead end.

The big issue in the United States is we have 50 States and each one of them perform their elections differently and then the individual Secretary s of State either certifies the results or contests them and orders a recount. Basically it s a 50 State crapshoot and it s not going to get any better and more than likely it will get worse so long as there are sore losers that won t concede.

America only ranked 31 among countries with highest voter turnout in 2020. I dont know the outcome this time around. Most countries that ranked higher had a turnout of 75% or higher all the way up to 95%.
These countries provide more for their citizens in terms of basic human rights/benefits and the influence by considering elections as a privilige and duty might be the reason for that

As per my usual i dont watch the vid but read the comments. In Canada, not far from the usa, it takes minutes to vote, we have the NZ, and probably Aussie too, 6 week campaign, you d think our influence would rub off. But of course its the other way around, bit by bit the treacherous path America is walking is where some Canadians would like to go

Bosonaro was nothing like Trump, Bolsonaro is an Ogre, loudmouth but unlike Trump, he is not an idiot! He accepted the election and the country elected a far left president.
The reason why is fast in Brazil is that the votes are electronic, we dont vote on paper and each vote count rather than electoral colleges.
