Every year, we invite the winner of the Scripps National Spelling Bee to our show to defend his or her title against Jimmy. This year, we have expert speller 12-year-old Bruhat Soma from Tampa, Florida with Judge Cousin Sal and professional pronouncer Guillermo.

I love that Bruhat contributed to the fun, even after it was clear that the fun was supposed to be the comedy of annihilating a 12 year old in the certainty that it would be a huge joke. Still, Bruhat went right on clapping and laughing, glad to be there and clearly sure of his own worth. I love this kid. He's going to end up one of those rare people who contribute something worthwhile, and do it all with the happiness that he respects our human condition.

What an awesome little kid I love that dude but honestly the segment was bull crap and I hated it so much just because of what he had to go through listening to those words and then losing and then being told that he won what's wrong with you guys but seriously that kid is amazing love that dude

That was such a sweet & LOL funny segment. Bruhat is a great sport and showed such admirable respect to everyone & held his own on that stage. I'm so happy that Jimmy & crew treated this adorable, smart, sweet young man to that well deserved drum set

The kid is too nervous, hope he gets over that. It's also a good lesson from Jimmy to learn how to spell by just how it sort of sounds versus the actual sound, gives his brain some training and adaptability. Not hard to just remember spelling of words.

Such an adorable kid and a great sport. You could see how excited he was getting the drum set. Him giving his spelling bee winnings to charity just shows what a big heart he has. I wish every kid could be like this one.

Kudos to Jimmy for his intervention. Jimmy knows Guillermo well, so was able to decode his accent, leaving talented Bruhat at a disadvantage. I couldn't make heads or tails what words Guillermo was saying, either!
reply

Giving it to charity Are his parents loaded perhaps I know, I know: I'm a cynic. I grew up on hand me downs, and I would take that money at 12 years old and put it in the stock market. No charity would get a dime.

Kimmel, plz do more outdoor stunts w/ you in them, not the sidewalk BS interviews. I thought Letterman was ur hero. Letterman wasn't lazy n did lotta funny skits outdoors n didn't take a vacation every 3 weeks.

Jimmy. Trump incorporates Nested Loops in his rhetoric, he learned from conversational hypnotist Richard Bandler. Shark attack stuff is about eliciting fear emotion, and not so much about logic.

maybe Asia, if guillermo isnt the worlds best and most serendipidous (not checking if thats actually a word and if so, i actually got close to the correct spelling) stand up comedian.

Bruhat is such a kind and intelligent young man. Great job, mom and dad, for raising a productive member of society. Way to go to you as well, Bruhat, for all of your accomplishments.

Spelling bee winners are always Indian kids
I wonder what the parents think about the set, they don't expect their son to be musician maybe classical or be a composer

Never bored of watching true Americans Great kid but its somehow sad that the only positive in education that US has to offer is named Bruhat, Hoe-yong, Yassir or Moshe.
reply

Valhalla was not the home of Thor, eejit, it was Wotan who built Valhalla - or, in the words of the fabulous and late Anna Russell, 'a sort of celestial White House'.
reply

LMFAO, Guillermo says the words as we say them in Spain n Portugal n Italy, we pronounce every letter as it's written. Example; PH is not an ''F''. LOL.
reply

Aw poor Bruhat! Poor guy is donating his prize money to charity. Probably best since the Fed government will take half of his winnings right off the top.
reply

Bruhat, your parents must be very proud of you; what a lovely young man. A credit to you parents, nation and schooling. (Do you play cricket.
reply

Jimmy is genius. Guillermo, well, what can I say, genius in his own way, and so key to the show's off-beat humor. What a nice kid. Keep the beat, Bruhat.
