Gameplay and commentary on 0 AD, a free open source RTS for all main computer platforms! Download it FREE for Windows/Linux/OSX lazygamereviews: I also should mention it kinda has a sequel called Rise Of Legends. And then they stopped making them for some reason. I know when Sierra made the first Empire Earth, they copied a lot from Age Of Empires, but when they made the next two games, they drew more attention to the Rise Of Nations series, since it was very popular during the time. Sadly Empire Earth 3 turned out to be a disaster despite a lot of hype it received from the developers, thus leading the franchise to it's unfortunate end.

Rise of Nations is awesome. You should also check out the other Rise of Nations game Big Huge made called Rise of Legends. It's a fantasy RTS that plays a little like a Warcraft. It has three very different races. A Steam-punk race, an Arabian Mythology-inspired race, and a super advanced Mayan-styled race.
I wholeheartedly recommend to anyone who likes RTS games and fantasy.

Couldn't agree more with you.
Guess that guy never played any Civ game, or else he would have known that those are turn-based.
Anyways, 0 A. D. is a nice game in Age of Empires-style. Although I wish it would play in the middle ages (maybe with more factions like AoE II, including e. g. Bohemia, Flanders, the Papal States etc? THAT would kick ass)

It was an RTS by. Big Huge Games? I think? I think Microsoft also helped? Maybe published. anyway it was one of the first RTS games to use 'squads' as single units, so when you build riflemen or whatever, you'd end up with 7 or 8 little people controlled as one unit. It was an Empire Earth stone-age-to-future style time advancement game. Was pretty fun!

25: 10 Fun fact, King Xerxes of the Persian empire actually did something like that. When Xerxes had to cross the Hellespont during his invasion of Greece, he had pontoon bridges built. They were promptly destroyed in a storm. So Xerxes had his soldiers whip the Hellespont, brand it with hot irons, and throw shackles into it to punish it.

I'll be doing an Episode IV video, yes. And I'm not really into multiplayer gaming that much. I'll play some Battlefield 3, ArmA II: DayZ, or Tribes Ascend here and there, but otherwise I stick to single player. It's too difficult to set up a good match with my schedule more often than not, and I'm not a fan of playing with random people.

Downloading right now. in 2021 no less. this looks pretty good in 2012, funny in 2021 their torrent download page still says this:
0 A. D. is Still a Work in Progress
The game is currently under heavy development, and many features are currently missing. This release is an alpha version, not a complete game.

When I saw the video title, I thought this was one of the -AD-/Anno series games. (with titles in the US including -1503 AD-, -1701 AD-, -2070 AD-. Have you played any of those? For somebody who's favorite RTS is AoE though, they may be a bit plodding.
Also: poor goat. D:

Have you heard of Rise Of Nations? It's another RTS game published by Microsoft, but was made by Big Huge Games rather than Ensemble Studios. It's a pretty good game, but a little old as of now (It was made back in 2003.

ABSOLUTELY you must try out Rise of Nations!
It is my favourite RTS, it does the best of any game I've seen of translating slow turn based Civilization (my favourite game full stop) into a snappy quick real time game. :-D
