At long last, the fourth game in the excessively violent Carmageddon franchise is here on PC! But does it live up to its predecessors? As a long-time fan of the series, let's try to answer that. - UPDATE: The game's performance has been improved!

I agree with everything you said in this review. This game is so fun yet the performance issues really ruin the experience. This game should still be on early access, especially since performance issues are common in early access. But I don't understand why they went ahead with the full release, they should've fixed the issues prior to releasing it. They do seem to be trying to fix it now since there's been some pretty large updates released for it. I really hope they fix it soon though. This game is really promising and a must for any carmageddon fan!

Great review. Aside from the performance related issues (settings cranked up to the maximum on an i5 4690k, loading times are around 30s, the game sometimes drops the fps in certain situations to a slightly uncomfortable level) the gameplay is alright. The Carma series was one of my most played games when I was a kid, so I kinda have my nostalgia glasses on when looking at this one. I don't dig the -need credits to progress- system either. Even if you are the fan of the series, I would wait for a sale, or at least a patch, if it ever comes.

Great review! - I spent many an hour playing these with my son Lew! - plus the tdr2000 where you could design your own cars through art packages! - Interstate 176 - nitro + the other one the steering wheels we went through? Those were the days - Can still remember Lewis my son saying when we first got a hold of GTA the first overhead one! - wouldn't it be good if this was like interstate were you could drive it & Get in and out? - seems those boys at rockstar had the same idea! Once again thanks grea review of and old friend of ours

technically superior the original but misses completely the vibe. where are the faces we used to see at the top of the screen. how could they not understand how important this was. and then the graphics. too detailed, I want the textures of the building repeating themselves giving a sense of desolation. and then the sprites. where are they. substituted by cold uncharacterized 3d models. and the simple grim sounds. the screams. maybe the gameplay is there but, the real star, the atmosphere, is completely missing. bah.

I have an AMD processor and I backed this game but I'm really dissapointed, some levels take 1 and a half minute to load, and the performance is horrible even on lowest settings, my machine can play on 60fps almost every single game I played. Do NOT buy this game until an update comes, even on a sale. Is a shame what they have done with their public, is a PC exclusive, they should take the time to improve it.

What I don't understand (Aside from the performance issues) is why the devs picked a soundtrack of mostly dubstep? Seriously, the first two games were heavy metal incarnate. The bit of okay Fear Factory between a bucket of electronic shite that doesn't fit a Carmageddon game at all was too much. Music had to be turned right off and replaced with an Iron Man album.

Reincarnation looks fun gameplay-wise and I don't mind the dated visuals. The one thing I can't stand is poor framerate, hence why I didn't bought the game yet (and probably never will.
Stainless shouldn't have used Unity to make this game. This engine is notorious for bad performance on bigger games with large maps.

I'm really thinking about getting the game because for me, it's rather looks like an expanded, updated, HD version of Carma2, my favourite from the series. It's a shame it's not optimized that well, I don't even know that my computer could play it. Is this game out already, or it's still the beta version?

Lol are the graphics that bad? The lighting looks great, and the models seem pretty high-poly but I guess more details like actual grass, not just a flat texture would be good.
I guess when you play Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas as much as I do, my graphical expectations take a pretty big nosedive.

Buyers Beware!
A lot of people are reporting bad optimization with this product!
You will need a monster of a rig to iron out the bad optimization!
Plus the cars controls like a 52 ton Cruise Ship and the loading times are god damn long!
Good job LGR for making a notice of this.
