Your people are being turned into snack food! Time to get out of there and run a gauntlet of grungy alien landscapes. And it comes in a square box! Blaze: I love how not everything had to be so bombastic and crazy with this game, it was so subtle and atmospheric, I just love it. I loved this game so much as a kid, and this series was so close to my heart growing up. It's kind of sad that, at least in my opinion, the beautiful subtlety and just genuine art feels so. Lost on the newer games (New n Tasty and Soulstorm) They just feel so like, loud and in your face all the time for no reason and it's just like, damn. I miss when everything was so subtle and never Directly shoved in your face, the exception to the quiet, subtle atmosphere was the intense chases, dangerous encounters, or panicking moments. It feels like the newer games tried too hard to be different, but also felt like it was trying too hard to be similar to the older games in some ways. I just feel like the older games felt so genuinely focused and just, I dunno. I love this series, and I kinda really miss it.

I remember back in 2001. or somewhere around then, being at a neighbor kids house in tennessee where he was playing this crazy new black and green matrix-y game system called an xbox that put the graphics I had seen on my nintendo 64 to shame. Id guess it wasnt this game then but it was some oddworld game. I thought abe was in it but idk. All I know is the dreary dystopian aestestic both scarred my 3rd grade brain and drew me in. That moment of catching up to then current tech is BURNED into my brain in some kind of way.

I beat this game and felt so bad i went back and started over, saving every Mudakin. One of the trials doors didn't spawn and i had to start all over again. I persevered and still have the save file to this day. This was in like 1997 with a P133Mhz. My Mum was whistling his tunes for months after that.
I should probably get the new one as i have Nvidia Surround and it would look awesome on it. I never played the sequel and i'm hoping the new remake sequel gets me back on track for this game i loved so much.

I tried to master this game twice in my life, separated by years between attempts. both times I didn't last very long as the frustration was too great. A shame as it is a beautiful game, but I just have crap reactions and will never be able to get through the story. I still think it is a great game, but maybe in the category of Cuphead. and sorry, -git gud- is not something I can do (nor is it something everyone can do) - but it's okay, because games don't have to be for everyone.

It is indeed a masochists platformer xD
I remember completing it as a kid on the PS2 and subsequently learned to SORT OF speed run it ( Glitchless because. internet wasn't as big back then ) because. NO MEMORY CARD YAY!
It's still a goddamn awesome game ( For those that can live with failure and have determination to push through. For me the humor behind it was the thing i adored. I'm a sucker for slapstick comedy, even though i knew of the underlying themes of the game )

I stopped thinking Oddworld was hard when I realized you move along a grid. Once you see the grid in your mind's eye, you can see exactly what Oddworld is; a pretty easy puzzle game. It's all a simple matter of what buttons you're already pressing when enter into the next tile. Very easy.
I was so disappointed when I saw New 'n' Tasty doesn't function this way. That's when I knew the old series was truly gone.

Oddworld is one of those games that makes me miss pre-rendered backgrounds, especially when you look at the presentation of Oddysee and Exoddus compared to Munch's Oddysee; a lot of atmosphere and mood was lost in the translation to full 3D motion and environments. Even New n Tasty seems to lose the charming griminess of the original artwork.
Now if only I was any good at playing the damn game.

You know whats really strange about abes oddessy, i was told by my sister that loved that game that it was impossible to beat but i beat it and enjoyed every moment, the art style and the easy not overly complicated gameplay was a joy for me and i loved it all! It was pleasing to work so hard and inch little by little through every loss life as i progressed. It was amazing!

I was very young when my father got this game. It literally destroyed my childhood. Oddworld bestowed on me the worst vivid nightmares a 5 year old could ever imagine, and should never have.
Everything about Abe haunted me, from his orange ponytail, to his fiery red eyes, but none more than his mouth being sewn shut. It still turns my stomach seeing his face.

I grew up with this game, its one of my absolute favorites, I have finished it so many times I lost count, played it on everything it was officially and unofficially ported to and honestly know every word of every cut scene, the series in general has good and not so good entries, but none I would call bad, cannot wait for soulstorm.
