I tried bot the Oculus and GearVR. The Oculus was ok and it was a great experience the first time (but it was still just a tech demo, GearVR was terrible in my experience.
I think VR will be awesome when I will be able to use it like a 2D big screen + VR games, so that I will be able to avoid to buy a screen for my pc and just buy a VR headset, experience traditional games and new VR games.
While it is limited to VR things I'll just save my money.
Maybe one day we will be able to use the power of the mind to move. I don't know. but for now I think VR as another screen and since it's a screen I think I should be able to use it standalone.

I launch day I got lucky and managed to find one. Had to convince the employees at an AT&T store to go look in the back room because no one in the store knew what it was and they only had one shipped. I'm also using the Moga pro that I got at a huge discount thank to a holiday flash sale. I have enjoyed it quite a bit and haven't had much fogging problems but cleaning the lenses is not fun. Like you said 1 spec of dust if it's in the right spot can be really distracting.

FOGGING SOLUTION: Get Silica gel packets and stick them inside to heavily slow down fogging. 100% stopped it for me on my Vive (I'm using 5g packets, last 10-14 days for me depending on humidity. And duno about GearVR, but in vive you can't see these packets with headset on despite them being relatively close to your eyes. Absolutely no distraction.
That stuff is also cheap, I got 500g (100x5g) for 10$ and it's gonna last me 4 years at the current rate.

Strangely enough, it does burn your battery down when idle. Not sure why; it doesn't turn the screen on until it senses your eyes near, but it must still be running something. I forgot to pull the phone out of it one time. About two hours later, battery had gone from about 50% to zero. Agreed, the fogging is bad on mine too. All that said, I highly recommend the Gear VR anyway. It's definitely the highest quality mobile VR experience available.

The S7 is the highest PPI available for VR at this time from what I see. 1440p 5. 1 inch screen, 1080 x 1440 per eye. People say it has the clearest text to read if that is a test of image quality to anyone. I say it has a cleaned up PS2. 5 look to it. Get this if you have chance, it's well worth your time to try it just to see how low the latency is even for this easy access demo headset.

Thank you for your reviews. I watch your Sims reviews, and your review of the Samsung Gear VR was one of the big factors in my decision to get it.
I know it is not perfect, but I agree with you that it is awesome and it is worth $99.
BTW, I got the 2016 version (black, which is an improvement over the earlier 2015 version.

I always thought VR would be some gimmick novelty thing like 3D movies, holy shit was i wrong, this is awesome, i got one with my s7 edge and it blew me away even just powered by a phone, it was a whole other level of immersive and this is the way of gaming's future and the future of a lot of forms of entertainment

Well. honestly. that vr-headset with its directional pad on the site. if you could change or do some custom work for the case of the vr-headset it would be awesome because it could look like the special googles of cyclops from the x-men or the member of the starship enterprise with his cool looking shapes. xD

Some people are saying they had no problem using the headset while wearing glasses.
Great! -But I still have issues. - Glasses come in different dimensions and mine are too wide to be comfortable. The lenses also press against the lenses of the Gear VR, which could lead to scratching, so I opt not to use them.
