LGR - Developing Firewatch's In-Game Photographs!

The fact that they put in the ability to get the photos that YOU yourself took in, as well as the supplementary images that were probably common between everyone's prints, just makes it all the more interesting, it's a set of images that are solely in character and in universe, but also probably one of a kind, attributed to you and you alone.
I hope more game companies return to form and do this again, outside of big box special editions. Indiebox is helping, but it's just not enough.

I probably won't be playing Firewatch, since the game itself doesn't really interest me (as gorgeous as it looks) but I have to say, this has got to be one of the greatest gimmicks I've ever seen any game company think up. Not only does it give you a real-world benefit for finishing the game, but it's a great way to add to player immersion and connection to your world and story.
Kudos to you, Firewatch devs. Kudos to you.

Holy shit. As a gamer and a man that spent a small fortune on 35mm film and processing in my late teens and early 20's, this is the most awesome thing I've ever seen. I was planning on getting the game eventually, but you revealing this feature to me has made it a priority. And I have the added benefit of knowing in advance to make every frame of that virtual film count.

I only used the camera in the game to take pictures of things I thought would be useful to prove my innocence or to take a record of the odd things that happened because I thought it would be used at the end of the game. So the credits where you saw all the photos you took was not the cheeriest of things.

The amazing thing is, that these are physical copies of what you viewed in the game. It's weird to see them like that in that form XD and you retain the memories from that adventure and game the same you would if you were taking pictures of saoy, a road trip. I love this idea. other games should totally do this.

I like this, it's a lot like when you used to get a bunch of feelies in boxed games. You know, before Collector's Editions and stuff. Like how Shadow of the Beast came with a t-shirt (along with that big ol' beautiful box, and other games had lapel pins and trading cards, or even VHS and audio cassettes.

Ahhh, this is exactly the sort of thing I've been missing for years - tangible things, relating to the in-game world! Such a neat little idea. These days I buy my games digitally, but I do miss all the tat, brochures, paraphernalia and info that would come in a big ol' game box.

So cool! Completely on board with the -it's dumb, but I love this kinda stuff. - My buddy asked me the other day if I'd seen Firewatch and I thought I hadn't. I saw demo footage of this awhileeeee ago and completely forgot about it. Thanks for the reminder, I'll be checking it out!

I bought the PS4 version and I don't think the devs included this as a feature: ( Kind of upsetting because my computer definitely can't run Firewatch. This is really cool of Campo Santo to offer though, and would totally be all over it if they updated the PS4 version to support it.

Wow, it looks like taking artistic photographs and getting them developed at the local CVS. Plus your pictures are quite good, like the kind that I would expect a photo enthusiast to take. Then there's the combination of photo paper gloss with the digital world. Way cool.
