Watching all your videos recently has made me wonder if anyone has assembled a real life pip-boy yet with an actual CRT while actually running DOS running an app that actually works like the pip-boy. And then I stumble onto this video from three years ago with you playing Fallout 4.
I can kinda see how it might work: having a heart rate monitor and geiger counter hooked up and running off DOS in an all in one program with pip-boy interface. External storage on magnetic tape storage.
Protoyping can start from hooking up full size verisons of everything first. Maybe even include the IBM 8516 monitor.

Can't recall names, but there was a few Outrun style racing games in the arcades in the late 80's/early 90's that used 3 screens; one main view and 2 peripheral. It'd be completely pointless, but for some reason my brain decided it needs to be recreated in miniature form using mame, 3 tiny crts, an rpi or similar tiny sbc and perhaps a remote controlled car.
Trickiest part would probably be finding a hamster co-operative enough to demo it for a video.

Back in the day when VFX-1 came out i wanted to make my own VR helmet using exactly this. well my parents were not happy about me taking the VHS camera appart. However it is still a pretty valid idea and best use of them right? makes sense to me

All joking aside, this was really cool to watch. My parents filmed everything I did on one of those camcorders and I remember how it felt to look into the viewfinder. I remember thinking, -how did they shrink a TV to be so tiny? -

Hold up a minute, all these people suggesting making a vr headset with these migut have more of a point than they think, the refresh rate on these is amazing, thus eliminating a lot of motion sickness from lack of responsiveness

I love the devices from this era as the analog electro-mechanical age gave way to the solid state/digital. You get the beautiful tiny Sony walkmans, like the WM-10 and stuff like this.

I never thought about it much when these were around, but looking back I assumed they were some sort of early LCD display. Had no idea there was a little CRT in there

I literally used to watch movies and play my playstation on long car trips with my parents camcorder and an inverter. Oh god this brought back so many memories.
