Two days ago I needed to pull an all-nighter for a college coding project, a bunch of very repetitive work, that I put off till the night before because of how much I dredded the monotony, and I took breaks to play Cities: Skylines for like 10-15 minutes every hour or so. While working, I left it on as a source of background noise/aquarium to glane at/scenery porn (cinematic camera) on the smaller monitor, and it did help me both not fall asleep and actually give me a bit of extra pull to get the work done. Ended up getting 15/20 points for the assignment, and had an overall pleasant time =)

My -zoning out- games are lately fighting games. Usually against CPU opponents (since they are less demanding and some older games have little to no active players, i just execute the combos/special moves and most of the time i have no idea how i won (specially in more modern game where the CPU is pretty brain dead even in higher difficulties when it doesn't cheat. I think the mechanical-like inputs relieves some stress without any serious mind investment

Today I realized what game I do play that fits this category: Space Engineers. It's buggy, it's not much of a game, it isn't really challenging and I feel like it's more like tending a garden than anything. It's brainless, a bit creative and rough enough to keep me from becoming completely mentally disconnected.
It was weird that at the moment I came to this conclusion I was reminded of your video. So here's my comment saying as such.

No, it doesn't make any sense at all what you mean about the empty world and wanting to play, now excuse me I am going back to play some more No Man's Sky.
I am sorry but the last thing I want now is to catch crabs. :p
Ah, you mentioned NMS after all. :p
Another game I use in the same way is World of Tanks. Which not only ruined my stats, but also piss off my teammates lol.

I played a mobile game called -kill the wolf, save the sheep. - You play as (i guess) a farmer with a bolt action sniper rifle, shooting wolves. You can use the bolt action as a semi auto by spamming the fire button, and it was hilarious. And theyll be these action shots of wolves falling over after getting shot, and theyll be gun fire blasting through him like theyre incinedary rounds.

The
Stardew Valley is this for me. but it-s a bit strange. Sometimes I binge it and lose entire days, others I-ll leave it on and occasionally come back to make some progress (even though I gain nothing from leaving it paused and open when i could just close it)
I don-t know, I guess I just like hearing the music sometimes.

Seams like a fairly inoffensive time waster: )
I almost wish fishing in WoW had more mechanics available like this, all we have on there is you press one button near water and click the bobber when it go's down, loot your fish, repeat. even old SNES games about fishing had more depth, kinda sad really.

My addiction to Binding of Isaac (and the following sequel, Rebirth) has turned into somewhat of a running joke within my group of friends. No matter what I'm doing, if I'm on my computer, there's an 80% chance that I'm simultaneously doing whatever I'm doing while on the bg playing BoI.

Warframe is my go-to zen game lately. I pop in, do a short 5-10 minute mission, shoot some bad guys, craft an item or two, then alt+tab out and get back to whatever I'm _supposed_ to be doing. Warframe is weird in that you can play it obsessively and really casually at basically the same time.
