I wonder, if this would run any of the contemporary Unix derivates, like Venturecom's Venix/86, Microsofts Xenix86 or IBM's PC/IX. I have setup some emulators for these old Unices, but some real hardware would be nice. Anyway, it's an awesome project and I am very happy to see modern recreations of these old systems. Eventually, the existing originals will die off and projects like that allow the younger generations to experience, what computing was like 40 years ago and where todays stuff all comes from. I have some nice memories of those times in computing, but technically speaking, I am happy that those days are over.

I had a similar DOS game to that one you played and it was named Spectre VR. This was in a time long before any VR headsets I know of. I wonder if that game is on GOG. They have a lot of other good games from the days of DOS and they come with DOSBOX so they can be played in Windows. If you wanted to you could just load the games in DOS, just ignore that DOSBOX and run it as you would have way back then. Once you pay for a title on GOG it is yours to download as many times as you like

Is there something like an fpga that can actually accurately do different levels of old pc hardware? Like all the way from xt to a 486 perhaps? I'd like something that would have the correct speed in xt games but flick a switch or press a key combination and it would play Stunts/Doom with 486 speed. That would be what I would want.

Hi, LGR!
You are use -MS-DOS Upgrade- in this video. This distribution contains full MS-DOS instalation, but this is for UPGRADE from previous version - not for fresh/clean install.
I don't wanna fight about this topic (have no sense, but if we tell/show computing history - need to do it in right way.

That orientation is great if you have a heavy air cooler like a big ol' Dark Rock 4 pro or NH D whatever cause the usual vertical just hangs there and gravity pulls down on it, but the test bench style distributes the heft better, not that it really makes much of a difference but yea.

Man. I wish this existed but in 486 form. Just because I'd love to fire up some older games I have that would probably run much better on a old system(since I haven't even bothered with wine or dosbox since I stink at configuring it)

-LGR - Would you consider updating this video with the NuXT v2. 0 and attempt to run Doom on it? -(Source modified for 8086/8088 compatibility, not the original 286 dependant version)- Im curious how the NEC v20 would fair at 10mhz

other people -hmm. lets put this i9/ryzen build, into this pacard bell system from the start of the millenium-
Meanwhile in the deep catacomb of castle LGR -lets put this new rgb gaming beast case, on a 386 build. -

I really liked this build except for the ssd card was a little silly besides I kinda like the mechanical HDD drives in old retro systems, a ssd in the thing is kinda like putting modern wheels on a horse and buggy carriage

That CMOS battery alternative ROM chip is a great idea. My current second Linux/Windows machine has MB from 2013 and it still uses a CMOS battery. Seems rather silly when a ROM alternative makes a lot more sense
