Exploring the Diamond Trackstar cards on LGR Oddware! Effectively Apple 2 computers on an 8-bit ISA card, bringing near perfect compatibility to DOS PCs by slapping a whole computer inside of another computer. The fact that these were out during the heyday of each platform is wild, so let's test the 1984 Trackstar and 1989 Trackstar Plus in an IBM PC XT and PS/2 Model 30!

Oh yes, another oddware beauty with good old LGR, this time is a card basically is apple II on a Chip or in a card in the case which by coincidences Apple themselves also made a card that allows you to use the apple II software on a Macintosh specifically on the LC series which I recall from David Murray aka The 8 Bit Guy. This is literally Hackintosh before Hackintosh. Neat

I kind of wish that Clint could one day to a thing on the inverse of this, the MacCharlie. For those who don't know, it was a sort of sidecar upgrade to the original Macintosh (128/512k) that allowed the computer to run IBM PC software. Sadly, it wasn't that useful for anything that used any sort of graphics. Still would make a great Oddware episode.

come on, run (ascii) Doom, lol.
Ah, yes, emulation, I remember running a PC Emulator on my Mac. And on that PC Emulator I would run other emulators. Hmmmm, emulatorception, lol
Nooo! Not California games, I effing hate both the state AND the game, burn them both in an unending hellfire of misery and despair, lol

New LGR video and a new item to put on my list of unobtainium things. But great video nevertheless. I just really wish such a card exist for the C64 or C128 or any of the Commodore 8-bit. Even an Amiga on a PCI would've been sweet. Well, if these are possible, of course. Again great video. :)

This would have been amazing for NES game development back in the day. Apple II systems were used for that purpose back then since the Apple II shares the same CPU as the NES. The ability to easily transfer files from the PC side to Apple II and back would have been an amazing godsend.

Lots of companies used Visicalc on the Apple II & Apple CP/M business software. I could easily see one of those companies justifying the cost of the card when they switched to PCs just for the file transferring features alone.

There was a thing for the Amiga 1000 called the Amiga Sidecar, which features a complete PC XT-clone system mounted in an expansion case which connected to the expansion bus on the right side of the Amiga 1000 computer.

got to love the power of emulator software and hardware able to make a windows DOS PC into its rival brand Mac Apple i wonder if there was any leagal issues crop up when this oddware was made back in the day?

I saw the colours are slightly different (presumably because the monitors are using TTL RGB) - any chance you could run a colour test in low res graphics so we can see what gets replaced with what?

I learned to type on an Apple II C in elementary school 91-96 and haven't used an Apple desktop computer since in the house we've used IBM Dell HP and Toshiba among other brands for computers

My Original Macintosh Color Classic with 16mhz Motorola CPU and 8mb RAM can still go online and surf the internet with HTML 2. 0 Friendly websites. It sold for about 1100 back in 1993

The thing about Burgertime - (1) who are the giants that eat the burgers and (2) why don't they care that you have walked all over it with your dirty shoes?

9: 50 I can't stress how much I miss the professional touches, like those neat, tidy binders. These days you're lucky if you get documentation, it's usually all ads.
reply

14: 11 I got in-school suspension in middle school for a program I ran on the library s computer:
10 PRINT The principal is a communist
20 GOTO 10

reply

The binder manual is a nice touch, it speaks to how techincal technology used to feel back then.
All of this stuff was so impressive at the time.

Say what you will. Ken and Roberta sure made a company whose name will survive through the ages. Long may the Sierra name survive in our memories

Something like this would never happen today knowing the way apple works nowadays there would be all kinds of lawsuits
