The LGR Oddware Tower continues! Every one of the Antec 1200 case's 5. 25 drive bays are filled with weird 2000s devices, all it needed was. everything else, ha. So I got an AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ and a Foxconn AM2 motherboard from 2006. Let's install everything into this monster ATX PC case and get it set up with Windows Vista! Alberos: Hm. for a machine that more than a PC, a golf course mouse thingy that you show a while back should be great. And also throw in that USB magic 8 ball thing. Does it work with Vista? I can't remember what it was made for. As for keyboard. I don't know, maybe some funny looking one with that pinball keyboard attachment thing attach and also the keyboard calculator too?

I have an MSI Micro ATX AM2 board of this era, and with the latest bios I was able to get an AM2+ AMD Athlon II X4 295 2. 9Ghz all core OC stable running with a simple 4 pipe DeepCool AM2/AM3 tower cooler, 8GB of DDRII 800Mhz RAM, and even an XFX AMD R7 240 2GB GPU works along with a 256GB Netac Sata SSD/1TB WD Green Sata HDD/IDE DVD-RW drive, and 450 watt Rosewill PSU. Also I have the latest Solus Budgie Linux running rock solid on a 75Hz 5: 4 Sony monitor at 1280x1024 with some light STEAM games for my great nephew to play when he's at my place. These old AMD Athlon/Athlon II chips where, and still are a beast!

really you should remove the thermaltake stuff, im guessing the speaker is really ruing the audio compared to the other beige one. you should rather use the other beige speaker instead and pair it with the beige speaker that already in there. or if you have something else. the round left and right meter on the thermaltake clashes with the musketerr. eiter change the thermaltake with the other beige speaker. or find something else. seems to redunded since you have the much nicer musketer. I mean obviously all is kinda redunded. but its cool. but yeah thermaltake audio thingy. anyway, awesome video, love the build

That CPU cooler is nearly as loud as my R9 290 reference is at half fan speed. Ouch. With that Noctua cooler that 3800+ would be hard pressed to ever get over 40c, I had a dual core 3GHz Athlon that wouldn't get up to/above 50c unless I unplugged the fan on my Zalman tower cooler so you probably would have been fine with the bracket you printed provided it was strong enough to withstand the cooler clamp.

Having worked on server racks for a bit it was hard to watch knowing what was going to come next. When he got excited about the leaf blower fan before turning it on, when he pulled out a consumer cooler looking at a cooler block with no brackets etc. It's always a gamble when you roll the dice on a server board and I'm honestly surprised it wasn't in driver hell trying to run vista.

LCD Smartie was and still is a great little program. I still have a 20x2 LCD in a box that I used back when my cable co allowed me to use a cable card to record to my pc. being able to see what tv show was recording without having to wait for the monitor to come on was great. Plus you can draw little doodles with it on the screens. Sad it hasn't been updated for years.

Vista was released at the wrong time and some people give all the credit to windows 7 for giving more advanced features such searching for files and apps. Vista paved way for 7 as it made a new standard of requirements to run windows and 2 years was all it took for hardware to catch up to the requirements recommended by vista but the damage was already done

ive mentioned it before but it would be awesome to see a hifi audio tower build subwoofer speakers vus etc ive followed all the oddware builds till now its unfortunate that the speaker drivers are probably worn out and the tube amp thing is a bit strange and dissapointing but still the idea of a full hifi audio vibe in a tower would be cool

athalon64X2 was what i used int the first computer i ever built! I had an MSI k9a2 platinum mobo. I was also stoked for 64bit and dual core. I ran the 64bit version of XP for the longest time. but it was super buggy. so i upgraded to Vista ultimate. I really didnt have any problems with vista. Games for windows though, that was another story.

I really enjoyed this video. To me you need a gimmick keyboard and mouse. I would pair it with a ergo gear.
Keyboard Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000 (2005)
Mouse Evoluent Vertical Mouse (2004)
Both would be Vista appropriate. I'd recommend X-Mouse button control to pair with that mouse to use the extra buttons for some fun.

Bit of a shame with the Vista choice vs. the audio card -- It REALLY did not like Vista one bit back then, and you lost hardware support, EAX was quite a mess. and what not else.
Suppose they might eventually have fixed it. Personally I went back to XP, and several years later eventually went for Win7, and a new sound card.

I went through several of those fan controllers back when they were common on xoxide, they were all differing levels of janky. I don't remember any of them mounting as loose as that kingwin. There were several that took 2 screws in the front half, so cases that don't have rails up toward the front just didn't work.

Instead of audio equipment, put in a ton of drives. That's what drive bays are for. It's in the name. Load the case up with floppy drives, ZIP disk, CD, DVD, Blu-Ray, and all sorts of data storage mediums. Make a computer that can read just about any kind of physical media sold within the last half century.

All of this nonsense together with Vista makes me think of just one thing that's missing, and that's something using the Windows Side Show thing that Microsoft tried to make a thing when Vista was released. A unified way for little peripheral display control, and integrating with the Sidebar gadgets as well.
reply

The reflective displays could be fixed with transparent matt overlay plastic, that may additionally also be good for improving the polarisation viewing angles of the displays as well.
A very Oddware tower that could be themed to go with The Fairly Odd Parents from back in the '00s perhaps? ;-)

This is awesome, totally laughed at the cassette storage and player.
A few cosmetic things the PC NEEDS:
#1 Dingle Balls hanging from the top corners.
#2 Maroon Velvet finish with Kustom painting of a wolf.
#3 Chrome strip trim.
#4 Pine scent air freshener hanging on the inside.

Awesome tower! I agree with you, the weirder, the better. And controlling the computer with a remote control fits right in.
If you install that crazy cooler anywhere else, I recommend playing jetpack. It sounds like it would fit.
I second the idea for oddare keyboard and mouse too.

I almost plucked up the courage to talk to a woman today. Thank you for putting this video out to strengthen my resolve. Also, those VIA integrated graphics chipsets were born straight from the bowels of hell - danger Will Robinson avoid. Good idea to replace it. Thanks for the vid.

This is the most beautiful tower I've ever seen. The mishmash of colors, shapes, the interconnectedness of it all. Segmented displays, dot matrix displays, analog guages with RGB lights. Music and news, digital and cassette, a cigarette lighter? I could only dream of owning this thing.
