The Reason Conor McGregor Punched Jake Gyllenhaal On The Road House Set

No matter which version you're watching, "Road House" is a brutal movie. In the 2024 version, fists flew in real life – and star Jake Gyllenhaal is sharing all the details about what went down. The most memorable fight in the 1989 "Road House" ends with Patrick Swayze's James Dalton ripping a man's throat out with his bare hands. Over 30 years of action movies later, any remake of Road House would have to turn up the ferocity a little to have the same impact. This time around, Jake Gyllenhaal got ripped to play MMA fighter protagonist Elwood Dalton. Despite his prime physical condition, filming wasn't easy for the star. Gyllenhaal suffered a gruesome injury on the set thanks to a glass mishap — and perhaps even more terrifyingly, he got punched in the face by actual MMA star Conor McGregor, who plays Knox, the film's ferocious antagonist. Jake recounted the incident during an appearance on the Tonight Show, describing how it felt to be on the receiving end of a world-class punch. Turns out, a little sleep-deprived confusion might have played a role. "It was late, because we shot a lot of these fight scenes at night, so it was like 3 a.m." Jake described how he and Conor would fake fight for the cameras, and then go watch the playback to fine tune their approach. It was during one of these loose rehearsals that Conor accidentally connected a blow. "And he was talking to me real close and he was like, 'Yeah, that left hook looks good, but then when you do it, boom!' And he hit me by mistake.". The actor mentioned that he and McGregor were equally shocked by the accidental cheap shot. "I just slapped you – are you alright?" Fortunately, the two maintained a great working relationship throughout filming, and McGregor gave his co-star plenty of pointers to make things more believable. "He was always great with me. He would tell me to do things like, 'Oh, you know, turn your hand, move a little bit more this way to try to make it look more real.'" Still, Jake Gyllenhaal wasn't the only person taking real hits during the "Road House" shoot. He also ended up accidentally hitting Conor McGregor in the head with a car door. Call it revenge if you want, but Gyllenhaal made sure to note that the fighter just shrugged it off. "He was like, 'Pfft.'". The Road House remake has seen its fair share of drama in the news, most of the controversy has been around rights to the story and the movie's streaming release. It's pretty remarkable that two of the lead actors hitting each other in the face has been the least of the movie's worries. As for Conor McGregor, he had extra motivation to bring his A-game to the Road House set. In an interview with. The Hollywood Reporter, the star recalled Meryl Streep's comments about mixed martial arts at the 2017 Golden Globes. On that occasion, Streep said during an acceptance speech, "Hollywood is crawling with outsiders and foreigners. And if we kick them all out, you'll have nothing to watch but football and mixed martial arts, which are not the arts." Streep was making an unrelated point about the arts, but McGregor understandably didn't care for the unnecessary shot to MMA. In the interview with THR, he shared his own perspective, saying, "I was really taken aback because fighting is an art. It's brutal also, so I can understand.

A kewl enjoyable flick, it is, but only if watching overly-ripped tattooed tough guys beating the sheet out of each other (for no other reason than just because.
My detailed review: If you like the ass-whuppin genre, Road House will not disappoint. Get your flabby physique to the theater.
Bonus Tip: This is a guy flick. Get some points while showing you care and have class: don't force your lady to watch it. They don't drag us to their tear-jerking girlie romance flicks, you need to reciprocate (unless of course, you have to fall on the sword because you are in the dog house.

Fortunately Prime Video in Australia has both movies & I just recently watched them both. The new one is a very loose remake of the original & comes across more like a poor Jack Reacher knock off. Connor is great & the sole reason that you should watch it, but some of the camera work during the fights will leave you frustrated.

If you compare this to the Covenant or Nightcrawler I’m thinking Jake phoned it in. Conor McGregor wasn’t really acting I don’t think. Both guys look tremendous and I’m sure have a little chemical assistance but hey. I’m going about 2. 8 for this remake

Good lord. Meryl Streep.
Brutally obvious she comes off as cynical/ too many pats on the back.
and all she does is make millions talking in front of a camera. you know real art.
Everybody taking a knee because she said a sentence really convincingly.

I thought the remake was super brutal & I liked it. The only similarities were daltons name and the movie's name I think the movie was great fun to watch if it ever comes to DVD I'd add it to my collection

Like Jeremy Jahns said. It's a good time if you're drunk
And I have to agree, I watched it after having a few beers and I kind of enjoyed it
Jeremy's reviews have never seen me wrong lol

New one is MEH. Just an average movie. Not a piece of cinematic perfection that people will be talking about and attempting to emulate 35 years later like the original is.

Mistake lol. more like an egomaniacal psychopath testing someone else’s boundaries. As a die hard mma fan i can tell you for certain that to establish dominance

The remake was absolute dogshit. Jake didn't even act. McGregor was a cartoon. The story missed out all of what made the original good. It was a pile of tripe.

Watched this today. Really good movie for the genre. Biggest problem: the lines This piano is out of tune. Sounds fine to me. Ugh! Cringe.
