Actor Replacements That Totally Ruined The Show stlgtrace: You cruelly neglected to include the sweet 1960's show Petticoat Junction. PJ was a big hit in it's first season. It went to #6 in 1963-64. The second season it garnered a quite respectful top 20 rating. In the 1965-66 season when the show went to color the actresses that played Bobbie Jo and Billie Jo quit and were replaced and also the show slipped down past #25 were it remained for the next three seasons. In the 1966-67 season the actress that portrayed Billie Jo left and was replaced. The actress that held the show together the much respected Bea Benederet, a very well known character actress who had much experience on stage, radio, cartoons, movies and television died of cancer in 1968 and was replaced and after her departure the show's ratings tanked. After two lackluster seasons the show was cancelled along with sister-shows Green Acres and Beverly Hillbillies which was called the rural purge.

While the X-Files had jumped the shark well before Duchovny left, I actually found it kind of interesting how the arrival of the totally pragmatic and un-intellectual John Dogget flipped the script on the show's original dynamic, by making Scully now the believer trying to convince someone even more skeptical than her former self. But then of course they retired Scully too, and brought in Reyas, who was just an incredibly bland and uninteresting character, for the last season or two, which had not given Dogget enough time to start picking up any of Scully's credulity, so instead they made the junior agent the paranormal-enthusiast this time, and that didn't work nearly as well.

One show that was totally RUINED for me when a main cast member left, but still survives to this day is shocking. l used to LOVE Law and Order SVU, but after season 12 Stabler left the show and l stopped watching after that. l always said if they get rid of Benson or Stabler l will stop watching. and after season 12 l did stop watching as Stabler was axed out. SURPRISINGLY the show is still a huge success and still running. its roughly in its 23rd season now.

I pretend the post Delta Burke shows never happened. I couldn't stand Jan Hooks character, as she added nothing. Julia Duffy's character should have been written as a different kind of personality rather than a shadow of Suzanne.
And speaking of Suzanne, they should have kept her around in spirit with Julia chatting with her on the phone. The unseen character had worked on Cheers and on Frasier. It would have worked here as well.

It's funny they say Topher Grace left to pursue his blossoming acting career. He left because he thought he was the star of the show hot shot that could get any roll in Hollywood. Funny thing is he is by far the least paid character from that 70's show nowadays. Even Fez nearly doubles his net worth! As does Hyde, Donna, Jackie, Leo and he comes nowhere even close to the fortune Kelso made. Never would have guessed

Two and a Half Men was one the biggest. Ashton is a really great actor, but he simply could not replace Charlie Sheen. Charlie was being Charlie in the show as in his life.
They completely messed up what was the show about.
PS: That 70 Show had to end because 70s ended? Still, after Eric's character left, and Kelso was less present it wasn't the same. they really got burned.

The office, was still good after he left, and might have been better. Robert California was a great addition. Though I remember the plan being they would cancel it after 2 years anyway. X-Files was better with Robert Patrick. I had stopped watching before Mulder left but eventually watched them all on syndication and they were so much better. It made the show good again.

That 70's show replacement worst actor ever. Full cringe whenever he was on screen.
Many times show was on it's last leg, obvious to lead actor, show wants to wring another years profits. It may not always be replacement actors fault.
I thought James Garner and David Spade did well on 8 Simple Rules. It was a different show and better in some ways.

The show Horrible Histories was completely ruined when the reboot came out. It had a completely different cast and only 2 of the original actors (Jim Howick and Simon Farnaby) stayed for the first season of it, but they obviously left it there because of how much hate the new series got and still gets to this day
