Enders game is not a children's book. Why did they try to market a philosophy heavy sci-fi book to children? It can work, but they just took out all the stuff that actually made Ender's game a good book and put in the action sequences. The enemy's gate is down was supposed to be a massive revelation in the first act, the whole transition to the final stage of his training was supposed to be a transition to being a true commander. And Rakam was not a fighter jet pilot. Whoever saw this script and said it was good knew absolutely nothing about the book or Card's intent when he wrote it. Even if this movie had made enough money to warrant a sequel, there was hardly enough there to go on to actually make a correct adaptation to Speaker for the Dead. The entire purpose of Speaker for the Dead was to expound on the fact that Ender feels the guilt for the Xenocide, and his ability to divine the minds of his opponents shows him how to understand the Piggys. It just wouldn't work with what they have in the Ender movie-verse.

Watched the movie and i loved it. read the book and i hated the movie. The movie had like 3% of what was in the book. Its really a shame how how much they cut out. They should have made two movies for the first book. You may or may not like him but Orson Scott Card's books are insane. His second book was about the conflict between the colonizers vs the native creatures of the planet they were colonizing. He was trying to tell us that we cant judge creatures based on our understanding of things. For example, the creatures of the planet murders one of the colonizers. The colonizers thought the creatures (cant really call them aliens since its their planet) were dangerous. We come to know later that the killing was an act of love and physics works differently in that planet. Anyways human nature lead the people to almost kill off an entire species instead of understand them. bla bla bla. its interesting af. 2nd book as a movie would have been amazing.

Ender's game WAS an amazing movie, in its own right. While it took a lot away from the books, it kind of had to. They couldn't have Asa Butterfield start this movie at 6 years old to 12 years old, that was ludicrous. So they improvised, sadly at the expense of some of the books material. As a stand alone film, it was absolutely amazing. It never would compare to the book, but it did get quite a lot right enough to be more than loosely tied to it. The entire basic plot was still intact (minus the Russian wars on earth, and the great impact Ender's brother and sister had) and the movie did really well. But they spent way to much money on CGI, which, ofc, was one of the greats in the movie being its stunning visuals. Apparantly, one CGI company went bankrupt in this film so they had to hire ANOTHER one. So it wasn't that they were greedy, at least not to start out with, but they spent so much money trying to make this movie great.

the problem with enders game is they ruined it.
the entire point of the ender series is the complete handing over of their will and future to the children. they refused to do this in the movie marginalizing the children and ender and keeping the adults in charge. it was very very very different in the books. I get having changes from book to screen but they intentionally changed the core of what made the books so great and ruined it.
this was further a problem because they kept aspects of the book that made sense from a children are in charge angle but not from the angle they had in the movie which created off discontinuities that did not make sense.

The book however answered why only two kids per family, the changes in global politics and global power. The technology gained from the formics and most importantly why Ender was being tortured intentionally.
Oh yeah and the uprising his brother and sister were were planning back on Earth. The focus seemed to have been more on action and wow sci-fi and less on the people who bought the books to life.

As someone who read the novel first, the movie was sub-pal. I know that many would disagree but those who have seen the novel feels so. I think the best way to deliver this movie is not to create a sequel, but to create Netflix series. Ender's game is a coming of age story, with numerous episodes in between. There are many stories to work on, from Ender's Game and Ender's Shadow. I also think the actors were too old to be convincing. I know that 6 or 7 yrs old as in the novel would be practically impossible, but they can try with 10 or 11, not 13 or 14

I'm now reading the book for the fourth time, after watching the move for the third time. I have to say that the movie is great. of course most of the book is the inner dialogue of Ender. They also cut a ton of scenes out. That didn't make the movie any worse. The cinematic universe is beautiful. The visualizations of command school are of epic proportions. The only way the movie falls short is that a lot of information is spoon-fed to the audience to get to the point. Having read the book, I appreciate the movie a lot more.

I think this video overlooks the fact that Speaker for the Dead, Xenocide, & Children of the Mind; Ender is 35 years old. If they age that up similarly to what was done for Ender's game he'd be 40-ish. At which point it's not really YA fiction anymore. Ender in Exile would be the next logical entry in the series because he's only a year older than in Ender's Game. Still that's a very slow political story that involves a lot of letter-writing. Hardly a Hollywood action movie. Might all be better for a Netflix adaptation.

The main reason this movie flopped was the marketing. I have not heard about it until like 2015 when it showed up on netflix. How did they expect to make any money, without any advertisement? Thanks to them being incompetent idiots we lost a chance for a great franchise. And honestly - it would be great without H. Ford and the other two people that you for some reason depict as famous actors. The lady I never heard of and the guy was in command and conquer series video games.
