The Most Underappreciated Horror Movies Released In 2017 Mitchell: Sorry, but The House on Willow Street was not underappreciated - it's just a bad movie. XX blows too - I can't believe this was even mentioned. The Neon Demon was hugely underappreciated, so was The VVitch and Don't Breathe, The Babysitter (horror comedy) and The Loved Ones, so those should have been here. There's lots of foreign horror that could have been here too, like Raw for example.
By far the most underappreciated film mentioned in this list is The Blackcoat's Daughter. That film is a flat out masterpiece and actually one of the best films of the year from any genre.

Perhaps I'm just jaded, but I thought that the Devil's Candy was complete crap and no amount of Metallica or outsider art was going to save it. I mean I watch a lot of horror films, be them foreign, indie or mainstream and I normally can sit through them with no issues. Devil's Candy made me wish that it would just end. Color by numbers doesn't even start to express how cliche this movie is. Dark possession and sensitive artist tropes can be done well and have been, but not in the Devil's Candy.
I'm interested in checking some of the other entries on the list though.

Mm i have to say The Void couldn't have disappointed me more. The trailer looked so enticing but when I watched it I was just frustrated. It just felt like it was trying waaaaay too hard and there was no plot whatsoever (none that made sense anyway. Yes it looked cool and I know films don't have to be plot driven to be enjoyable but something has to drive it, and to me nothing did. The others look rlly interesting tho!

Of these movies I have seen The Void, which was pretty darn good, House on Willow Street, which I thought was okay to decent, and The Evil Within, which was one of the best horror movies I have ever seen, and Fredrick Koehler should have won an Academy Award for Best Actor for his performance. That is a good damn horror movie. I'm looking forward to seeing the other movies on this list.

A Dark Song is a very strange, and pretty damn good movie. Kinda creepy as well. The Autopsy of Jane Doe is really great, and very scary. Also The XX, The Girl With All The Gifts, Creep 2, Killing of a Sacred Deer, Phoenix Forgotten, Stephen King's 1922 (Netflix, and Personal Shopper are all very good movies. Personal Shopper is not quite a horror, but still REALLY GOOD.

Watched The Devils Candy last night, which was Halloween. Fantastic plot and acting as well as the music. I wouldnt pass this one up if youre a fan of suspense/thrillers/horror. Also, I never imagined seeing one of the cast members from Earnest Goes to Camp in a movie like this. He was fantastic in his role btw. Catch it on Netflix while you can.

It should be mentioned that the void has a terribly written screenplay that felt like a completely antisocial 7 yr old was trying way too hard on. I was cringing every 5 seconds. Ive never experienced that before so it is to behold! The visuals especially toward the end gave me a blissful lovecraftian feeling so it was so worth it for me.

Devils Candy is brilliant. But it needs 20 more minutes. Evil Within. Frederick Keeblers performance is great. The pacing is slow. Black Coates daughter fest. Dig two graves yawn. Lake Bodom fast forward through that one. The void interesting engaging. House on willow street was indeed fun. (Xx was not great.
