Insanely Successful Movies That Were Supposed To Be Flops infinite: I'd credit Johnny Depp with a big part of the success of Pirates. You're the worst pirate I've ever heard of. Ah, but you have heard of me. 1 Classic. And then there's Keira Knightly. Do I really need to say anything more?
Rocket was a huge part of the success of Guardians. Who doesn't love a trash panda who's kind of a sociopathic asshole with a gun?
Taken? Well that one's easy. There are millions of dads with daughters who would literally murder anyone and everyone who hurt their little girl. Neeson has that intense burning hatred just under his completely calm skin as he's hunting down the people who took her and killing all of them that's easy for a dad to relate to.

Taken is a very basic simple story that is true but there is an element in there that really hooks you into the main characters success it could possibly have something to do with men being shat on by women left right and center with the courts support where kids are concerned and this movie shows in the strongest possible way why men are important in a childs life. or not lol just an opinion.

Everything in life is luck and being in the right place at the right time. Perhaps a little karma as well the man that believed in his friends movie made 40 million the man that did a favor for his friend saw that favor as a value of 35k for a days work and lost 14 million. Perhaps people should just believe in something and not be so money hungry and money will find you.

Titanic: it was deemed overbudget and expected to drown both fox and paramount to the ocean floor.
Snow White: everybody called it Disney's folly, his own brother was concerned because its overbudget and people still consider animation as non-serious business.
Both movies are/were listed in top 10 highest grossing films ever adjusted for inflation.

I always found it interesting that the movie New York, New York was supposed to be this big budget success that the producers used a tiny portion of that movies budget to take a chance on the film Rocky. With the assumption that New York, New York will cover the loses of Rocky when it flops. Only to have the reverse happen.

The Close Encounters bet explains why during the intermission, before Star Wars begun, there was a five minute short about close encounters. I thought it would be a follow up to Star Wars which we couldn't stop talking about. Forty years later I still haven't seen the whole movie, must have been Spielberg's worst movie!

tbh, I really thought IT would be a box office bomb, even with Bill Skarsgard's performance. The movie was an adaptation of a book written in 1986, which was made into a miniseries in 1990. I thought ppl would say Naah, I'll watch the miniseries, it's the same story, right?

You forgot The Fast and the Furious. It was supposed to be a throwaway movie, as Vin Diesel wasn't a big name yet and car-related movies usually don't make money, but it ended up flooding Universal Pictures with cash they were not expecting from it. Lots of it.

This reminds me of polish writer Sapkowski. He is Witcher's author and creator. When he was selling the rights to CD Red for game creations they offered him 2% share. Instead he wanted cash, which was like 5k if I remember right. If he took 2% it would be like 15mil

Taken was a hit because it was just a good ol' action plot. One guy (yes guy) going on a rampage and killing everyone. No political agendas or woke bs. Neeson has been kicking ass for decades. He was a great Jean Valjean and of course the best of all, Darkman.
