Also, ironically Michael Bay was right, for the wrong reasons. A lot of women are fascinated by, attracted to, or keen to try and emulate beautiful screen icons (look at the effects the likes of Marilyn Monroe, Ava Gardener, and Audrey Hepburn had on movie goers, so Kate would have pulled in the female audience, but the critics savaged the film (just google some of the reviews even this long after it's release) obviously unfairly, because it was definitely a great blockbuster and the rest was history. And finally, yes, we know she is some serious eye candy, but she's also a very accomplished actress, and for many years has been ridiculously under appreciated for that, and yet she still manages to be the life and soul of the party whenever she's interviewed. All I can say is, what a fantastic role model and human being she is.

But then again, so many of Kate's roles and movies DO, for a number of reasons, take on cult status: eg: Underworld franchise, Van Helsing, Total Recall remake, and others. As for Pearl Harbor, it is not, in essence, a particularly bad film, just a little too long on the, sometimes, pondering, build-up, and cinema box office figures are not always proof of the excellence of a cinematic reease (Citizen Kane, and many others have stumbled a little before the achieve the recognition they deserve, and often, the promotion & advertising of a film can be at fault. I think we all agree that PH is not great, but it IS interesting, in some places fascinating, and actually a good historical record of this terrible moment in American, and World, history, and the entangled relationship angle is extremely plausible, & similar situations occured many times over.
Kate WILL go down in history as one of the greats.

The Underworld films 'aren't exactly considered great cinema'? Absolute nonsense. And the Michael Bay, who said Kate Beckinsale, the most beautiful woman in Hollywood for a very long-time running, wouldn't be 'pretty enough' to threaten women, speaks not only to his bad taste, but to a larger psychosis in Hollywood that gives leading roles to unattractive women at the expense of beautiful women who might be equally talented actresses/actors.
Hollywood is under the impression that women don't want see beautiful women in movies, and this is complete BS. Hollywood needs to stop pandering to the lower, envious nature of a minority of women, and uphold a higher standard like it tried to decades ago. Kate Beckinsale is one of the few that they were too blind to notice was of outstanding beauty, not to mention talent of equal measure.

Beckinsale isn't getting the roles, not for lack of fame, appreciation, or feminist sentiment, rather - most really good iconic actors are actually known for playing a part of their personality on screen. so, the screenwriters would do well to know who Beckinsale really is, so that her talents can fully manifest on screen. Unfortunately, Beckinsale was taught by her mother and British culture to behave in such a reserved capacity, it is difficult to know the image from the shadow.

Most ridiculous e-hatchet job on a celeb ever. Did Kate Beckinsale skip past the Looper tent on the red carpet or somethng? Is she a favorite of the Looper producer's boyfriend and envy is too much? Oh please, be sensible. She is not that intimidating nor an extremely good looker but just meh attractive with no lips, no hips, no ass. If I really want to be intimidated by a gorgeous woman, it would be Monica Bellucci, Catherine Zeta Jones or Lauren Budd and they make Kate look ugly.

All michael bay has proven by the things he said about kate is that hes just a relic of the past, a dinosaur who might have a knack for special effects but horrible story telling and if woman leads are not at least half the age as grandpa is, then they are not attractive enough.
