The Real reason is because everything simply has an end.
I still loved the show even when the dynamics started changing a bit but it never was as good as it was before.
That's a common trend with long lasting shows. I mean, you'll have to kill me if I didn't say I loved Friends until the end (I still do) but seasons 8-10 aren't at par to previous seasons.
HIMYM stretched everything out so it's original ending didn't make sense anymore (try forgetting about the other seasons and watch it after season 3-4, it makes more sense. Fraiser wasn't the same after Daphne got together with Niles and the list goes on. (isn't it a little sad that I know too many shows? I also watched House M. D so it's not all sitcoms either.
Everything will hit and end.
12 seasons is 12 seasons. It was just time.

everyone i talk to agrees that TBBF ended when the writers decided to make them
all get girlfriends, have kids and basically win at life.
the whole premise of the show was a group of nerds and their awkward interactions with the normal world and their hot neighbour who was miles out of their league.
i rewatch season 1 and i love it, when howard was sooo creepy that it'd have me in stitches laughing,
and raj couldn't talk to girls, and leonard's attempts to flirt with penny were soooo awkward XD
THAT was a good show.

young sheldon sucks, it was a mistake to stop. the big bang theory, is had the right chemistry, to be perfect. this does not mean, the the actor will be successful in the other acting part major error. the same happened with star trek. in 1968 until, they realized there mistakes that they acting skills are that not greater than the part they play, spock= Leonard Nimoy was great because the part he made was greater than he was. that is a fact.

The quality has fallen to a bottom level. Introducing new characters is a clear sign of the start of the end of a series. This show non the less kept it going after destroying the premise with new characters. Still enjoy revisiting old episodes, but stopped watching years ago. When the spouses starter appearing they ruined the show and it was no fun anymore. The originality faded and it became any other romcom - but floating on a great past.

I love this show! 12 fun season. to everyone involve with this show: i like to say. thank you, thank you for staying the original cast. you were all very love and good luck to all in your future project. only one problem. who is going to make me laugh. most of today actors are vulgar, no respect for there fans, devil worshipers. as Leonard would say ) oh! no i'm having a panic attack. ha! just kidding.

it's so rediculous when these knuckleheads capable of nothing more than regurgitating lines written for them make millions of dollars pretending to be scientist and basically making fun of them while real scientists mostly live from hand to mouth. these talking heads simply don't deserve all the spotlight and wealth they've been bestowed upon. definitely, something's terribly wrong with our society.

The show ended from season 8 onwards. It became cumbersome and rarely funny to the level of the first 5-6 seasons after 2/3 of the episodes where about everyone getting married or Berny and Howie or Sheldon and Amy. It just became a different show. A show about relationships and touching songs and mah feelings. It wasn't about goofy geniuses and nerds in hilarious situations anymore.

Don't understand actors and singers quiting something good and thinks my they can do better only to fizzle away.
Having said that BBT was living on borrowed time and it's better they end it than eventually be taken out due to falling ratings.
Despite all this after Friends, crash landing of HIMYM, it's gonna be a big void without BBT
