Both of them have slow burns, which I appreciated. But I am mostly impressed by Hereditary. It gave me genuine shock and scare. I felt very uncomfortable just seeing its visceral imagery and the realistic and convincing performances of the actors. The score too made the film more unsettling. The film lingers with you for days! Literally, everything about Hereditary was amazing.
Annihilation isn't horror though (probably the Bear scene made it seem so. In a nutshell, I think they are easily one of the best films out there.

Hereditary is not just scary during the day but also an incredibly hard hitting masterclass in film. This movie had me cringing, hurting, and feeling that dark icky feeling only a truly great horror movie can bring. I have a form of schizophrenia meaning a lot of times its hard for me to relate to other people and or feel empathetic for them, this movie had me feeling hard for these characters I have only cried to one other movie and thats Fruitvale Station and this movie had me there. Take this both as a warning and a soaring recommendation.

annihilation was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay overhyped. it was a decent movie but the way people treated it (obviously people very limited in what they've taken in so far, or they would have recognized the heavy borrowing' this movie (or book) did from original works) really turned me off. so i'm here to bring balance to that view. it was a pretty good movie, that would have been better had the ideas been original and not from many other works by other authors and movies

Hereditary was awful. Total opposite of the shinning. when it came out (the shinning) Initial critics reaction was bad but audience loved it. As time went by positive audience reaction forced another look now its considered an all time great. Hereditary is already on the mirror path of this. Give it time. It will eventually be universally accepted as junk. (To those who loved it. i do respect your right to your opinion. I just dont think the world agrees)

Made me feel ssooo uncomfortable. Each time I watched it, saw more Easter eggs/clues. An atmospheric moody horror film, with sudden realizations of horror (that there's something in the corner on the ceiling watching you, or the weird symbol on wood post at side of road seen before something bad happens there) without loud sounds but
. complete silence. shudder.

Hereditary is a great multi layer horror movie. The people that didn't like it are the same people that think Annabelle or Paranormal activity is good, which is the reason horror movies are devolving into the cheap jump scare and complete lack of plot that leads into the next jump scare.

Upgrade had a good story. But the movie was low budget and mediocre acting. And the first 20 min were horribly boring. The best thing about the movie was the surprise ending. Id rate it 6. 5 out of 10 and add an extra. 5 cause of the ending. So maybe 7 outta 10 max

Wasn't a fan of Annihilation, but loved Upgrade. Upgrade is not horror, its a thriller that explores the implications of A. I. and cybernetics. Really made you think. A Quiet Place was good, I wouldn't rate it ten best though. However it is definitely worth a watch.

Hereditary wasnt scary AT ALL. if anything it was just, average in terms of terror. Its more of a psychological experience in stress of a horrific experience like a Conjuring, or Insidious. But none the less, it was still a solid film with STELLAR ACTING.

Out of all of these. Hereditary is excellent. it's not slasher horror. it's not gore. It's psychological horror (my favorite ) and upgrade & annihilation are GOOD- BUT they're not horror. The wildling was a one timer for me
