We Finally Understand The Ending Of The Sopranos J. : Im extremely late to the game but I just watched the series for the first time, my theory: Tony lives but watches his daughter get shot, when meadow walks into the diner the two black men shoot her, if you notice in the scene one of the black men has a gun in his front shorts and watches out the window as meadow parks, reaches in his front pants when she walks in. boom!
There was a lot of focus on her helping the black community, her parking, that whole last scene put a lot of emphasis on her. Then her working for the free law office, after this last case she was going to move up to a high pay position with a big firm. Tony was happy, he made amends with New York. life was good but thats not the life of a gangster or Tony. the good never lasts!
Karmas a btch!

Binge watched it finally. Amazing show. I forwarded GoT, Walking Dead etc. But this was different, I loved every minute of this show. Sure it had dull moments, fillers, but they made every effort to include them in stories. In fact even guest stars were weaved into story so well.
The realism, exposing mafia for what they are, the evolution of mafia in new age and gradual dying of them (Signs were everywhere) all displayed so nicely.
I love the ending for it is left to audience. If you are an optimist loving Tony then believe he lives on. If you believe he is scum then think he is dead all up to you.
Sad part is James Gandolfini died in real life. So that is more sad. Lovely actor.

Imo I dont think he died.
If you watch tony everytime the door opens, he reaches as if hes ready for anything. I feel like tony Was a lot more prepared to fight for his life than many would like to believe in the end. You can read it on his face, hes ready for whoever opened that door. & in the last scene I know it cuts out quick but I feel like he didnt die. Its way too easy and obvious for a dude in a members only jacket to just come out and kill him. I agree with david chase, this way was just more interesting.
Basically its very symbolic. U can think he died or didnt, ur pretty much both right cuz well never know.
So with that, my interpretation is that he lived

Hello.
This show was based on the jersey fam. Called the Decavelcante family.
In this real life family the boss whos named Vinny Ocean became a cooperatng witness for the feds. Only after everyone else flipped. The only hold out was Silvios real life counter part. FUN FACT Vinny Ocean was kicked out of the witness protectikn program for starting a strip club then running illegal schemes from it including tax evasion I believe. He is still alive today.
Ralphies counter part really disapeered and they arent certain who did it but there are rumours as you can imagine.
Anyhoo. your welcome.
Was never a mystery.
It is what it is.
Good luck.

I saw the last scene years before I ever watched the show. as soon as i started season 1 and saw he was having panic attacks i assumed that was what it was. panic attacks put strain on your heart and i think there are more scenes of him eating bad (for you) food than there are of him speaking. all the gabagool and breakfast cannolis, and the straw that broke the Camels back were those onion rings. Tony wouldn't put himself in the kind of position where he could get shot in front of his family, or where his family might be in danger.

want to really understand the ending? . it is an open ending so viewers can make up their own minds, very clever to end on a cliff hanger as it keeps viewers always wondering what happened. an ending like this would add to the cult status and brilliance of the Sopranos and they knew it. 20 years on and people are still talking about it, point proven! . Will anyone be talking about the end of GOT or BB in 20 years? not a chance. no mystery here folks just dam good writers.

When you're the best drama on TV for the last 20 years, it's fitting that the end would be so ambiguous and people are still talking about it. Unfortunately in real life James did not look at his own health too seriously and the extra weight he was carrying was stressing his heart and he left us too soon. People that have weight problems think that the image is issue or it can be ignored but it is your health that is in jeopardy.

Why cant people just accept that the show ends how YOU want it to end? It goes black, we dont know what the heck happens. Whether its symbolic, or just a black screen so you can imagine what you want. Maybe he did die. Or maybe he dodged the bullet like Neo from The Matrix. Maybe he even caught the bullet and threw it back at the shooter so fast that it killed the shooter. Maybe he has a force field around him. Who knows.

I believe the end is left as one's imagination and whatever makes us sleep better at night! The irony is, how such a bad human being ends up with such good kids and wife, and humble hard working parents end up with with low life criminals and drug dealers. The irony of life. Tony died. Period! For real, he died in Rome Italy four years later, GTS if you don't believe me! ;)

Basically if you pay attention the whole episode is symbolic even down to the song he pick to play the writers wanted everyone to have an argument about if Tony is dead or not the whole meaning is the line of work Tony does at any giving moment he could die so maybe he died maybe he is paranoid as the song that's being played you got to believe to see tomorrow
