Adaptations Of A Christmas Carol Ranked From Worst To Best Dominic: Not a bad subjective list by any means but I do take issue with how dismissive they were of the other elements in the story in the Patrick Stewart version. Yes, Stewart himself is the stand out, no arguments here, but the ghost of Christmas present is very impressive too. The typical adaptations of this character is to lean in a Santa Claus direction, the jolly giant as it were, but this film he has a Christ like presentation, hinting at the deeper, Christian elements behind Christmas while still retaining the essential secular and humanist vision of the story.

Disappointed in you putting Alastair Sims' version in the middle. In my humble opinion it's the best of all of them. Sim was a comic actor by trade but he really got into this dramatic role, and when he uses humor at the end, it's wonderful. The background music is great, the acting is great from all the actors. The atmosphere is right on the money. How can you not find this the best version when Patrick Macnee, Steed in the original Avengers tv series, plays a young Mr. Marley?

There are 2 others that I enjoy that weren't on the list. The first is 1995's Ebbie starring Susan Lucci as Elizabeth Ebbie Scrooge, the CEO of a department store in a modern-for-its-day take. The second is A Diva's Christmas Carol, once again female-led, starring Vanessa Williams as Ebony Scrooge, a disgruntled, ego-driven pop singer.

OMG! I watched this with trepidation as I thought my favorite version would not even get a mention, and instead you picked it as the best! I have been watching that version since I was a child (I'm 65 now)and it is still my favorite. Thank you for recognizing it as the classic it is!

So, where's the mentions of Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol, the Rankin/Bass The Stingiest Man in Town forgotten adaptation, the 1997 animated version with Tim Curry as Scrooge, or even the Flintstones version where it's all a play?

The Muppets and the 1951 versions are my favorites. The 1971 animated version was actually my introduction to the story. Watched it in school right before we left for winter break. That version of Marley Freaked. Me. Out.

I would submit for your consideration: An American Christmas Carol and Rich Little's Christmas Carol (the latter is a bit hard to find, but I have seen it once on Youtube. My personal favourite is the Alistair Sim 1951 version.

It may be true that Christmas Carol the Movie from 2001 may have its flaws and that it is one of the weakest adaptations of Charles Dickens classic novel, but I still love it for sentimental and spiritual reasons.

Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol has always been one of my favorite versions, certainly my favorite animated version. Jim Backus' vocal transformation of the miserly to the benevolent is as good as any on the list.

Sad you forgot the first ever feature-length sound version from 1935 starring Seymour Hicks. I wouldn't necessarily argue for it being the best version, though I do like it, just thought it deserved a mention.
