I recall liking G_Ghost Dog_ very much when I saw it years ago. _Kill Bill, _ both episodes, too. If you had not mentioned Zatoichi, I would have suggested that long series here. I recall borrowing most of the movies and some of the TV episodes via Netflix, in Japanese with CC. The movie version honoring the first Zatoichi is in full color and throws in musical dance numbers, too. It does somehow all fit. The first Zatoichi actor was a heavy smoker who laughed at those concerned about his health. He died of lung cancer. Oh, well! For martial arts movies, see the work of Stephen Chow.

Sword of doom, after the rain, Hari Kari, 47 Ronin. when the last sword is drawn. Also in Zatoichi they are not two girls but a girl and her brother who dresses up like a girl. I forgot Shogun assassin and Lone Wolf and Cub.

The Hunted (1995)
. John Lone plays the bad guy, leader of a fanatical Ninja cult. The actor had zero martial arts background and pulled off the role in such a convincing way I've never seen before. Awesome movie.

Hara-Kiri by Masaki Kobayashi is a very very good film. Nakadai Tatsuya (protagonist actor) in the film is often in the shadows due to the legendary giant that is Mifune, but Nakadai is as great actor as him.
