Scenes In The Book Too Disturbing To Put In The Movie. When bringing the written word to the movie theater, it's sometimes in the film's best interest to get rid of the most disturbing stuff.

They do touch on the Avox thing in the hunger games movies. Pollux is an avox. Plus the jabberjays and the black dogs at the end of the first movie are explained as being genetically modified creatures intended to torture people. Same with the tracker jacker venom which kills glimmer and is used to torture Peeta and Johanna when they are captured by the capitol.

I don't think they could ever get a film adaptation to be 100% accurate to the book. Nearly every single adaptation I've watched has always had a scene or two that was either changed or cut from the movie completely. (Shrug)

I hated Pinnochio, it was by far the most depressing thing I had to read as child and some of the adaptations are equally disturbing.
