Box Office Bombs That Everyone Saw Coming Throatwobbler: John Carter was not really loyal to the source material. They turned the title character into a reluctant, bad-tempered and whiny asshole. The original character is more of a Superman kind of honorable guy who always fights for what he thinks is right. And of course they changed Dejah Thoris into a modern liberated woman instead of the damsel in distress she originally is in the book. These completely changed the tone. Otherwise, the story is pretty close to the original, although they mashed together elements of the first two Barsoom books. Other than completely overhauling the main characters' attitudes, the biggest mistake they made was in the title. No mention of Mars or Barsoom? Even if they'd just called it Barsoom, original fans would have immediately perked up interest, and the title would get others asking about it. They also could have called it John Carter of Mars, which is the name of one of the books. All this being said, and despite my being an obvious fan of the books, I kind of enjoyed the movie. Although I seriously cringe at the portrayal of John Carter himself, there are some scenes that are very nostalgic, such as when he first arrives on Mars and has to learn how to walk, or when he earns Woolla's trust. They did overdo Woolla's speed though. Yes, he was supposed to be fast, but not cartoonishly fast. /rant

I never looked at Cowboys and Aliens as a serious movie in the first place. I thought it looked like one of those terrible Sci-Fi original type movie ideas was appealing to me because of how absurd it was.
I watched it. I liked it well enough. I mean it wasn't fantastic but I wasn't expecting fantastic. I think most sheeple just want to watch the same boring shit and reboots rather than something original though. Thats why you rarely see movies like Cowboys and Aliens and instead we get remakes of every disney movie of all time.

The Lone Ranger was actually pretty decent and had some very valuable social commentary that most people appear to have missed. I didn't get how Depp as Tonto was racist, the character was already an amalgamation of stereotypes and cliches to begin with so asking a true Native American to portray the character would be kinda insulting; at least with Depp in the role, you can imagine it as a sort of part two to his 1995 film Dead Man; which makes much more sense to me, personally.

I enjoyed John Carter, but that was when I watched the movie after it's theatrical run. That advertising campaign really did it no justice. The Lone ranger and Cowboys and Aliens were both fantastic films in my humble opinion. Although I would really suggest that people watch the directors cut of C & A as it adds more humanity to the story, has significantly more Clancy Brown (which is always a good thing) and makes it flow a bit better than the theatrical release.

Aeon Flux. should have never been shortened. Enjoyed the original MTV shorts.
Cowboys and Aliens. I liked it. Good cast, good direction, but somewhat muddled script.
Fantastic Four. NO MORE! My eyes they burn. they BURN!
John Carter. great source material but a bad lead actor, and a muddled script.
Lone Ranger. bad casting and not wanted. Enough!

John Carter was really good! What the hell why is it getting so much hate? The movie was really good and deserved better reviews. People need to learn what a good movie is again. Like the fact that people thought Hereditary was a good movie. It was horrible and could of been so much better. Come on John carter was good! And still is.

My sister and I personally went to watch Cowboys vs Aliens because we knew it had box office failure written all over it but the trailer caught our interest enough to support it. I loved that movie, my sister and her girlfriend hated it. but watching it in 2019 its aged a bad 8 years lmaooo that's such a bad movie.

I agree with most of the movies on this list but hey - don't be dissing my Cowboys & Aliens movie. Once one moves past the mixed genre thing, I thought this was highly entertaining. But I truly liked John Carter, despite what you had to say about it. The Lone Ranger was an utter dud.

I guess I'm not main stream I like all these movies. Especially Cowboys and Aliens with The Lone Ranger as my second. The Lone Ranger was a great spoof movie. I knew that was its purpose when the actors started talking to the audience.
