it's a very entertaining movie that was ignored for reasons that - I think - have nothing to do with the movie or the story themselves. I hope more people will feel free to experience it.
I liked the manga many many years ago, and while a lot of things are similar, the cold merciless cyberpunk atmosphere was not brought over from the manga the way I was initially thinking, but this version is good too. I now know two versions of the same story and like them both, differently but equally. This is probably - in general - the key to the success of a manga/literary work adaptation: we shouldn't expect a 1: 1 replica, but instead a reinterpretation with a different point of view and taste.
Somehow, I'm thinking about the Gits transposition, and despite being extremely close aesthetically (in particular to Oshii's movie) and all the good work and passion by Johansson, I still consider it far from the spirit of Gits - and rather lukewarm as an adaptation. With Alita, instead, I think they fully succeeded, accepting the inevitable differences in public, tone, and. era.

Why didn't the movie do better at the box office? That needs to be understood before moving forward.
My theory. It needed a Harrison Ford or Tom Cruise. Someone that is immediately likable and thus, you care whether they live or die in the movie. I was unable to bond or care much about any of the characters in Alita. That to me was what held back the movie from being better. Still a good movie, but then I enjoy good Sci-Fi and Techno music.

Considering how inept Disney top management is, I wouldn't hold my breath for a sequel.
Lately, Disney have become proficient at destroying franchises not at creating new ones.
And even the fairly poor critic reviews Alita got are the result of Disney interference as many of the so called independent critics are on Disney's payroll, and at that time Disney wanted Alita to fail as they were in the process of acquiring 20th Century Fox.

I really wanted to like this movie. The story was good, the visuals were compelling, but the story line jumped around too much. They never resolved a situation before moving on to something else. I think they just tried to cram too much into one movie and forgot about character development. Maybe if I had read the mangas it would have been better.

Favorite Adaptation of a Manga. Seen in twice in Theaters, Once in 3D and once normally. Have it on 4K Blu-Ray, watched it 12 Times already. My Dad on the other hand watches it on Cable every single time it comes on. He must have seen it 20 times, due to he recorded it to DVR. We are both waiting for the Sequel.

I read the main manga story arc and some of its sequel. The movie left out and changed some of the story. It was a while ago so the details are scetchy. Some of it justified and some not. The movie was amazing but not sure how much original content a movie sequel can put in because all the changes.

Hope it gets a sequel, one of my top 5 from 2019, a entertaining and well executed film that deserves a trilogy; the cast and crew did an outstanding job. I wished I d seen it in theaters, but I did purchase VoD rental not once but three times because I enjoyed it so much.

I think Alita underperformed due to bad timing. It came right after Captain Marvel which was awfull and also had a female lead who dealt with amnesia - so I and I guess many others just didn't want to get disappointed by another one of those movies again.

I think 'Alita' would've done better at the Box Office if it wasn't up against the insanely hyped 'Captain Marvel', a pathetically inferior film to say nothing of being overshadowed by the eagerly anticipated 'Avengers: Endgame' which was only a month away.

I'm still mad they didn't have Nova eating flan when he was revealed at the end. WHY DID THEY NOT DO THIS IT'S A HUGE CHARACTER THING FOR HIM ugh. the only other big complaint I have is the awful writing for her tavern speech. So cringey.
