Things Only Adults Notice In A Christmas Story

Countless kids grew up with A Christmas Story, and have gone from watching it with youthful wonder to seeing it through older, wiser eyes. In celebration of that inevitable shift in perception, here's a look at things only adults notice in A Christmas Story. One of the hallmarks of A Christmas Story is the rich fantasy life that Ralphie indulges in on his road to Christmas Day and, hopefully, his Red Ryder BB gun. The most elaborate of these fantasies involves him imagining what he might use the gun for, as bandits led by Black Bart attack the family home, forcing Ralphie and his trusty new weapon to defend his family. It plays out like the perfect kid fantasy of a Western in their very own neighborhood, but it takes a slightly dark turn when, at the end, it's pretty clear that Ralphie has killed Black Bart's gang. Kids might not notice this, but the lolling tongues and crossed out eyes suggest death, and he was, after all, shooting them. Yes, it's just a fantasy, but it's a grim one for a kid who mostly just wants to shoot targets in the backyard.

many of the aspects in a Christmas Story can be attributed to one thing Ralph is a unreliable narrator he is remembering things that may or may not have happened form half remembered memory's, and a 9 year old perspective degraded by time. he sounds like a 50 or 60 year old telling the story of his youth. I had to walk to school, barefoot, in the snow, uphill, both ways.

Ralhie didn't have a crush on his teacher; he was trying to bribe her for a good grade on his essay! The teacheer would have had to help students with their snowsuits, boots, etc. Or maybe an older student.

Well back in the day if you had a bully problem you were more encouraged to step and deal with the problem yourself then to involve anyone else and snitching would only get him beaten up more.

parents back then just thought if the kids are standing up to them self then they will be fine, the old man dad dance with the wizard of oz is really well hidden but ya its there.

If you watch the movie you would know that the old man enters all sorts of contests, which explains his excitement for his major award. His job has nothing to do with that.

I thought it was rather clear how Mr. Parker won his major award. At the beginning of the movie, he was doing a crossword that he says is for a contest.

Someone clearly has too much spare time to analyze this classic film in such detail. The fact that I watched it means I have too much spare time.
