Why The Creator Bombed At The Box Office

Why The Creator Bombed At The Box Office

With a timely theme about a world overrun by AI and a daring, visionary director at the helm, Hollywood had high hopes for Gareth Edwards' newest film, The Creator. So why did it bomb? The problem at the box office isn't the movies anymore, its the cost. Why would I spend close to 100 bucks at the theater for the family when I can just wait a bit and get a blu-ray for 20. There is no movie ever made worth what they are charging. Same goes for fast food restaurants. I can have a nice sit down dinner at a good place for less than a bag of drivethru crap.

I m going to see The Creator today. Some say it s a good movie, some say it s flawed because of the confusing stuff about AI. It s nowhere near as the best sci-fi movie says the terrible marketing team at Disney and none of the commercials didn t help either. There s no A-list stars in the movie. I like John David Washington and his performance was great, unfortunately, he just not a box-office draw. Gemma Chan is excellent, however, she s coming off from Eternals, which was a somewhat box office disappointment 2 years ago, but did decent numbers worldwide. So it was poor timing and a lack of star power just hurt The Creator at the box office and it needs to stay in the red if they want to turn a profit internationally. I think The Creator could end up getting a cult status on Blu-Ray/Streaming.
Also I forgot to mention, the science fiction genre had been putered out for over a decade and what was the last science fiction movie that made massive money? The Martian in 2015.

The actress you showed as Gemma Chan was not Gemma Chan.
It was Veronica Ngo as the simulant Kami.
The Creator is an ambitious film, and I rather liked it.
It had some nuance in character and story amidst the spectacle.
A shame it came out at a time of turmoil in Hollywood.
Agreed that films like Barbie and Oppenheimer do better at the box office, as the interests of the movie going audience shift toward more original IP, and not franchise driven fare.

The film industry is suffering from the Viral phenomenon seen in the internet. Nobody knows why something becomes viral, it has nothing to do with quality or what people want. Besides the fact that everything depends on the opening weekend which is completely unpredictable, movies are now like internet memes. Some movies become viral, for no apparent reason, some just fail, also for no apparent reason.

It's certainly one of the best movies I've seen this year
I loved the subject matter and it looked fantastic start to finish which is impressive on an 80 million budget, I even shed a tear at the end, I'm old your hormones change as you get older
It got very good promotion here in the UK and was number 1 at the box office here for a few weeks

I do not understand why this movie bombed. I have not seen it yet and did not see it opening weekend due to timing but if I could have, I would have. I personally feel like people are just plain lazy these days on an intellectual level. It is sad when media has to be watered down for an audience to get excited about something.

When I saw the trailers, I knew it would flop. Big budget film with nuanced ai themes. Admittedly, it s something I find interesting and plan to eventually see. But for general audiences, I think it s too much. Too bad. Seems like a really cool film.
Agree with all your points, btw. Thanks for the video.

it boomed because its sadly a movie thats only going to make it big outside of theaters. its definitely a classic in the making one that will do fantastic outside of theaters as its a movie spreeds best by word of mouth and actual lasting reviews
why simple. its a new ip in a stagnate movie industry.

The Creator suffers from a mass who does not understand it. It does not appeal to them. We are not there yet. It's a Barbie world. I passed this up to watch Paw Patrol with my family but I am planning of watching this during this weekend on my own. It has content not for every body.

People CONSTANTLY cry online about reboots and lack of original ideas, but they refuse to watch any movie that isn't a legacy ip, reboot, or a movie that has insane hype online like barbieheimer. Which one was a legacy ip anyway.

no blue beetle i didn't like all the comedy and the guy who did blue beetle didn't want to fight just run. the flash just bad movie and the guy who play flash suck also. the love for super heroes is real just not for bad movies.

They tried and failed remaking The golden child and that movie is a locked in classic hands down. These new age producers and or ones that try making a name for themselves revamping movies that don t need revamping at all

Internet clowns say they want original big budget movies but almost never come out for them. Then they complain when we get nothing but reboots, sequels, remakes, biopics and films based on toys, games and books.

I, for one, loved THE CREATOR. It's easily one of my favorite movies of the year, and I have seen it three 3 times already. I hope people give it a chance while it's still in theaters. Please and thank you.

barbie and OPP had red carpets rolled out for them. put in extra theaters, extended stays many other films do not get! Barbie and OPP have Execs giving them special treatment behind the scenes.

Idk, I personally was able to understand the plot of the film from the preview. But what I will say is that the movie did have a lot of plot holes and tone issues. Overall I enjoyed it though.

you should talk about how, according the wrap, Deadpool 3, Mission Impossible 8, and Beetlejuice are the films studios are considering top priority to finish stooting after the actors strike.
reply

Nepotism doesn t give you talent and likability. sorry but this guy had no business being in Tenet and the creator. Denzel is one of the best actor out there but the son suck.
reply

I didn't even know this existed. I would have loved to see this in IMAX but already it's out of theaters by Weds. Absolute disaster, never heard of such a marketing fail in my life.

We're not tired of the comic genre. we're just tired of DC putting out shit movies, with the exception of batman (obviously this does not includes afflecks abomination): D
